drink driving conviction
 

Please, advise wanted ASAP.
I had one drink driving conviction several years ago, random stop.
Before I continue spending more money and time towards a flying career, I want to know will my conviction close doors??
There is a question relating to alcohol related convictions on the Class 1 Medical form. Which I do this week.

I know at least 3 people in Australia that have (spent) drink driving convictions. One works for Virgin Blue, one works for Qantas and the other used to work for Ansett.
Whether or not they put any thing down on their forms is another thing. As far as I can tell, one conviction isn't a problem but more will be viewed with suspicion.
For the medical, you can be honest, if you regularly get done for DUI then they might do a liver function test. In fact, they still might for one only. As for the airlines, you don't have to tell them per se, you can put down "traffic violations" or something.

Look, at the end of the day it is only a traffic offence and NOT a criminal offence.. (Thats what is in NSW Aus). All cases will be looked upon on a case by case.. Im sure that wont go against. Remmember Honesty and integrity are the key aspects that underpin most HR Policies and procedures.. So to answer your question. Go for it.. Explain it and you shall be fine..

If anyone is interested, the doctor said "no problem".
Class 1 went fine, so back to the skys.

Does any ony one know how a DUI shown on your criminal record check would affect your status for getting a UK airside pass.

I also understand that it should be erased after 5 years.

Not an expert but as its a criminal conviction I would think you wouldn't have to worry about an airside pass as you may not have a job to worry about. On the form in the section on criminal records that aint going to go down well.
Not sure what the rules are for how long until a conviction is spent. However the spent conviction scheme doesn't apply to certain criteria ie jobs of a sensitive nature so even if you eventually got a job an airside pass may fall into this category.

Theres three types of C.R.B. Disclosures.
1.Enhanced. [ive just filled mine in i drive a cab]
2.Standard
3.Basic.

To gain an airside pass at most airports one needs only to gain a basic disclosure certificate, which, to my knowledge, is only available from disclosure Scotland,the CRB havent got round to doing them yet.
The basic is what it says, basic.Spent convictions regarding
THE REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS ACT 1984 apply here,so any spent ones dont show on the disclosure.

The bottom line -Airside passes are not considered to be of a sensative nature.But driving a cab with a pax in to the airport is.Funny old world is,nt it.Appiontment to jobs where National secucrity may be at risk, doesnt apply to airside passes,what a laugh. That is the state of affairs as i type this now.Whether or not this changes is a different matter, but right now thats how it is.
Applicants who are asked at interviews or on forms whether they have criminal convictions can answer NO if the conviction is spent.Drink driving-The period of rehabilitation is usually the same as the ban one recieves,unless somebody knows better.So i think you will find its considered spent, and seings one only needs a basic disclosure from Scotland your sheet should be clean.
1st time drink driving is USUALLY 12 months ban
2nd 3 years.

Yes it will show up on your CRB Disclosure if it is still applicable in terms of a driving ban.
Otherwise, you should still include it as a spent conviction on any job application form if you are requested to do so.
DUI is an extremely serious offence, but if you are honest and declare it, and it is a "spent" conviction, you should find that most employers will regard it as something that you sincerely regret and will never do again.

Failure to disclose if requested will eventually, and quite rightly, result, in the end of your career.

Being asked on a form have you got any unspent convictions, and having none, answer NO, where is the dishonesty there?

The employer is not seeking the information, that yes i had a drink driving conviction years ago.The employer cannot ask about spent convictions,that would be a flagrant breach of the law in relation to the REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS ACT.

Nobody here has suggested that the original poster should be dishonest and withhold anything.If its spent THATS IT-ITS SPENT.
