Transient Global Amnesia (TGA)

I wonder if anyone else on this forum has suffered a TGA and would be prepared to discuss the aftermath in terms of their GA flying......

I can't remember whether I've had that, but I'll get right back to you if it comes back to me.

Now, where was I?

Might be worth putting this on the medical forum

Would be helpful to have some more details. I presume you have seen a neurologist, had a battery of tests and been given a definitive diagnosis....

Thanks Radgirl. Someone was kind enough to move this to the medical forum.

Yes, I have seen a neurologist, had lots of tests - including a brain MRI - and been given a definitive diagnosis. I have been referred to CAA guidance entitled, "Certification after Cerebrovascular Events Stroke & Transient Ischaemic Attack" but having sought definitions of these on the web it seems to me that I have suffered none of them.

I was just wondering whether other people who'd experienced TGA had been ushered down the same track and how that worked out.

The tests are to exclude other causes - it is a diagnosis made when we cant find another reason. Cause unknown but often seen in patients with migraine. The good news is it isnt a warning of anything dreadful, but can recur so the regulator may be tricky. And there is no treatment as far as I know, but I am not a neurologist.

Thanks Radgirl. I have sent you an e-mail. You are quite right, there is no treatment. The consultants tell me there is nothing to treat! And I feel fine in myself.

One of my (highly respected) work colleagues had one of these events - the same day as he passed his Class 1 medical assessment. The diagnostic process was identical to the way Radgirl explained it. Unfortunately he has lost his Class 1 medical certificate for 12 months & pending no more re-occurrences, he should get it back albeit with must fly with another pilot on board which won't be an issue for him. He was told the chances of a re-occurrence are extremely slim.

Good luck...
