Initial Class 1 Medical Timeline after Cardiology Review?

Hi All,

After much saving, I am very soon booked to start an Integrated ATPL course aligned to an airline with one of the large training providers (subject to Medical)

I (perhaps naively) thought nearer the time, I could just breeze through an Initial Class 1 Medical a couple of months before, which was not the case.....

I saw my AME and all was fine, there were some notes from when I was a child that he said required a referral to a cardiologist, no issues there, did a few tests all normal, also did a neurological review, all normal.

My question is now I know this goes back to the CAA, how long do you all think it would take before they come back with a decision (albeit hopefully positive) of issuing/ non issuing a certificate? Do you think we are talking days from receipt of the letter? or Weeks/ Months?

I realise it is impossible to say but wondered if any of you have had similar experiences/ know of typical timescales involved? The course date is looming so I want to understand if it will be feasible.

Your help is very much appreciated....

It's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string.

Recent experience the response time has varied from eight days to a month!
I believe the CAA are very busy and August is a prime time for staff holidays.

You should be able to get in contact with your Class 1 AME and they should be able to access your own CAA progress timeline and this shows where you are in the system and which desk your file is on and where it is going next.

You do not want to be identified as a pain, so I devised the 10 day rule where I got in touch with the AME every 10 days just to "see how things were progressing!"

You cannot find out any results/descisions using this. The CAA will inform you by letter.

Hope this helps.

Hi AyrTC,

I thought as much..

That isn't so bad, I can only hope it is closer to the 8 day mark than a month as the course doesn't start that long after a month!

Yes I can imagine August is quiet, my final form is being sent to the CAA on the 31st so should be with them I guess the tail end of next week, when hopefully they are back.

I didn't realise that I could potentially speak to my AME about the status, I will do that in the next week or so.

Yes definitely helps, thanks for the advice!
