Class 1 Renewal - What do expect?
I currently have a renewal coming up of my class 1. My inital was in 2002.
How much different is the renewal as opposed to initial.
What should I be expcting???
Many Thanks!

You should just call the CAA and ask! I am assuming you haven't had any renewals sice 2002 or you'd already know, but if it is just like a normal annual renewal then it is nothing too interesting.....blood pressure, urine test, blood sample, reflexes etc. If you wear glasses / contacts, get a new prescription (on the CAA approved form only they won't accept anything your optician will give you) and take it with you. Possibly an audiogram and ECG depending on how old you are...I reckon after 5 years they will do most things again though....the CAA will advise. It is nothing like the initial though - you'll be in and out of the place in 15/20 minutes.

Hello there,
On a similar note, my initial JAR Class 1 medical was in 2001, but I have not renewed the class 1 since (I have been in Australia flying on an Aussie class 2).
But I now want to renew my JAR Class 1 in the UK. So, given it has been 6 years since the intial, is this still considered a renewal with an AME, or do I have to go to Gatwick again?
TheoAD - I'm guesing from your post you consider this to be a renewal. Are you going to a local AME rather than Gatwick?
I couldn't find a definitive answer on the CAA websites, so appreciate any thoughts before I contact them direct, as I'm still in Aus now.
Cheers,

Had a quick trawl through the CAA website and couldn't find the information but I'm sure it is there somewhere. You may find the information in LASORS.

I just got the form from my local CAA medical examiner. I didn't realise so I took the optician's prescription with me - I had to go back and ask them to fill out the new one and then fax it back to the doctor!
I am sure the CAA can post one to you.

Some months ago I contacted the CAA - medical division on a similar issue, here's their answer:
"The Joint Aviation Requirements state that if you allow your JAR Class 1 medical to expire for less than 2 years from the date of expiry, you can go to an Approved Medical Examiner to renew your medical.
If you allow your medical to expire for more than 2 years, but less than 5
years your Approved Medical Examiner would have to gain permission from us
before proceeding with the medical. If you allow you medical certificate to
expire for more than 5 years from the date of expiry, you would have to
attend our AMC in Gatwick for an initial UK JAR Class 1 medical."
As for the eye form, here's the link:

Cheers!!
