Oh well, one takes ones chances. Survived SARS, will probably survive this one. Will have to buy some patience before we leave.

Can we expect the Border Force(s) in the EU and UK to be more vigorous and vigilant in checking for illegal immigrants at ports...?

Effluent Man 23rd Jan 2020 20:00

I very much doubt that it is illegals that represent the risk at present. Much more likely to be wealthy Chinese owning property in London. If you decide to eat things like bats for dinner then I think that you have to accept that you may get ill.

Supposedly the new 'thing' in China is to eat wild meat, Civet Cats, Snakes, Monkey etc.
The meat is supposedly more tasty and earthy.
So it would appear that this was just a time bomb looking for a location.
Oh well.

A friend went for a routine visit to a medical clinic in Saigon yesterday. There was a tent set up in the parking lot, checking for flu symptoms, before the staff would let people into the building. Any suspicious symptoms and they would send you off to an isolation hospital.

"The Ebola virus is believed to come from animals mainly monkeys, chimpanzees, and fruit bats. The Ebola virus, if it resides in an animal, can be transmitted to a human being if the human has contact with the blood or any bodily fluid of the animal that is carrying the virus."

Not much of the lessons learned there.

Not a very new thing, saw all this, and more, on the menu early nineties. Was in a small town on our way to Yellow Mountains, out walking with our nine year old daughter when she exclaimed, "look Dad, a pet shop!". Lots of different wild and domestic animals in cages outside........a restaurant.
She was encouraged to hurry on.
Bear claws and elephant trunks were exclusive fare, snakes more like burgers.

Yummy yummy yummy, I've got bat in my tummy! I know the Chinese will eat nearly anything that moves, but you have to ask yourself where basic common sense has gone when 'learned lessons' are ignored and the mistakes repeated with disastrous results, especially for those not involved in any way.

I don't believe that it matters what you eat, we've had svine flu, bird flu, bovine deceases and some relared to sheep, neither of the two I remember the English term for, and am to lazy to Google.
Some fall of the perk, and for most life goes on.

Government has announced they are calling a Cobra Committee meeting concerning the coronavirus.

Did they do this over SARS or MERS?

Yes, many.
Don't think you're buying your bangers in the right places.
They don't all come on styrofoam trays, covered in shrink wrap plastic,
looking like a bunch of long dead fingers.

Damn, now thinking of bangers and mash for dins. HP sauce, butter.

Mr Optimistic 24th Jan 2020 13:21

Yeah, bat soup for gawds sake.
