I just don't get it, why are the Germans welcoming them? Future Charlie Hebdo?

SOPS 6th Sep 2015 04:29

What I don't get is this. For years the whole of the Western World has been has been on a high terror alert, mainly due to fanatical Islam.

Now, all of a sudden, the same politicians that told us to beware of the threats, are saying...it's all good, we will just let in a couple of million, mainly able bodied young men, most who have no indentification. There won't be a problem at all.

Only a few months ago, if one of these people had tried to storm the Frankfurt Airport, with no papers, it would have triggered a full scale armed police response.

Something is not adding up.

What's the minimum reproduction rate required to sustain a society? Somewhere just above 2.1 children per adult woman, I think.

France, Germany, Italy and Spain (along with most other developed nations in Western Europe if, in France's case, you ignore the quite high North African/French reproduction rates) have all been well under this minimum figure for decades now, causing grave concern to those in power.

Somehow, I think this is one problem Europe will not have to concern itself with for the foreseeable future. Which is not to say there won't be other problems that will replace it.

Yes, for decades the left have been telling Westerners not to have kids because OVERPOPULATION! Now the European people have taken their advice, they say Europe must import millions of people because the population is declining.

Why does anyone take these people seriously?

megan 6th Sep 2015 07:47

Are you just making it up as you go along?

There were up to 60 million refugees in Europe during WW2
Not too sure what you mean by "making it up". The nature of conflict is that people are going to be displaced. As to the numbers in Europe during the conflict I haven't looked, but they certainly didn't run to a non war involved country while the conflict was in progress, such as nearby Sweden or Switzerland. After the conflict was over attempts were made to return them to their country of origin, which of course was not always possible. My childs Godmother was born in a slave labour camp of Lithuanian parents (making boots), emigrated to Australia in '47.

I am European, prefer to live in Europe and be governed by European laws. I am tolerant of religions which do not impinge upon human rights. I am not complacent and accept that Europe and its history are not perfect. I am prepared to welcome a certain number of refugees and migrants who share those values but I expect European governments to protect me, its people and borders from wholesale, uncontrolled invasions by anybody. Why is this not being done?

tony draper 6th Sep 2015 08:51

Suppose one could say the behaviour of the Germans has improved a tad, within my lifetime they were straffing refugees walking up roads.

I can't figure out why the gulf countries aren't doing more. Nor does there seem to be any political pressure being put on them to help out.

If I was a conspiracy theorist, I could come up with a couple of ideas.
Its not a case of why the Emirates are not doing more..ask yourself why the migrants are NOT knocking at their door! We were 'not doing more' until the staged phot swayed public opinion to allow Cameron to do what was going to be done already.
Stop being so bloody naive!

ex_matelot 6th Sep 2015 09:03

And before the inevitable.. By staged phot i'm referring to the situation where somebody walking upon a beach saw a child face down and their first instinct was to take a quite high quality photo.
The week after 4 kids died in a lorry with 70 others. The month after hundreds more drowned in one go.
Somebody needed public opinion on side. This shit has been happening since whenever.
Can always count on our electorate to be suckered though..we have a great track record.

kangaroota 6th Sep 2015 10:08

WRT staged photos.
I am constantly bemused by reporting from a war zone where at the end of the report, the camera pans to a teddy bear lying on top (not in) the rubble.
Never any other household items, always a bear.
Cameraman - "Reports of a bombing downtown Mosul"
Reporter (female) - "Ok I've got the note book, recorder, you've got the camera and mike. Anything else we need?
Cameraman - "Don't forget the teddy bear"
Reporter - "Check"

pisstin broke 6th Sep 2015 10:25

Reporter - "Apparently 10 children and 5 old ladies killed"
Cameraman - "How do you know?"
Reporter - "It's in my notebook"

pisstin broke 6th Sep 2015 10:33

Just off topic a bit.
We were thinking of taking a Mediterranean cruise over winter and were planning to upgrade to a luxury suite.
My question is, if the captain was obliged to pick up some illegal immigrants, could I be forced to accommodate them?

TWT 6th Sep 2015 11:02

The old 'teddy bear' trick.

I have known several news cameramen who kept one in their cars.Useful for framing in the foreground with the car wreck in the background when there were kids involved.Trouble is,a lot of people just don't realise how totally manipulated 'news' is.For example, say you were the cameraman shooting a video of a street demonstration. The cameraman chooses what to record and what not to record. That's the first bit of editing, the bias,if you will. Then the producer looks at that footage and makes other choices about what is used and also what shots to insert in order to support his bias,or the bias of the news organisation.By the time it makes it to air,it bears no resemblance whatsoever to the events that took place on the streets.

This is the reason why so many public figures will only ever do a 'live to air' interview.
kkkkkkk

a quote from the article referred to in this thread:

By that benchmark, this week in Budapest was a catalogue of failures, characterised by fears and confusion on all sides, forcing the migrants to march up a motorway in order to get action from authorities who – like it or not – owed them a duty of care*.
---
And so it was by lunchtime that another 600 migrants set off on foot towards the M1 to Vienna, unsure if they would picked up by buses like those had been on Friday – and if not, then why not.
“Why are there are no buses?” asked Wasim Al Jubail, a 29 year old Syrian who left a holding camp for Keleti square after hearing of Saturday night’s crossings into Austria. “We are very confused,” he said, “We do not understand.”
He is not alone.
* the care offered wasn't up to the refugees' standards
So, the new procedure is: free transport to Germany for anyone crossing the border, if there are hundreds?

What's your step two?
I believe we where doing step two, that should have taken several decades if following basic common sense and social science.

3. Iraq becomes Western liberal democracy.
Who says it has to become a Western liberal democracy?

The manipulation of "News" is something that really annoys me and made me a little more grateful for Social Media where the average Joe Blow can have his say.

I used to be a regular contributor to the "Letters To The Editor" column of our local paper. However for the last couple of years my letters have been rejected as they have probably been deemed non - pc by some wet sub editor.

Here in NZ we are currently undergoing a referendum to change our flag. The main stream media are positively wetting themselves pushing their favoured option. Reassuringly polls on social media are overwhelmingly in favour of keeping our existing flag but the MSM want none of this.

One of the arguments advanced for a change of flag is to remove the Union Jack, as this represents colonial oppression. How ironic that half of Africa can't wait and go and live in the homes of their "oppressors".

And how come MSM never ask the questions I want answers to?

I would like to know how the father of the drowned boy got back to Kobane in double quick time in order to bury him, when his mission to leave in the first place was supposedly arduous and harrowing.

And I would like to know why, if it was such a dangerous place, did he risk going back?

That question occurred to me also.

A sad footnote to that, the family had been in Turkey for three years awaiting approval to go to Canada. Canada turned them down, (presumably because they had settled in Turkey, the first sanctuary they came to), so only then did they attempt the difficult and dangerous route to Greece.

Trouble is,a lot of people just don't realise how totally manipulated 'news' is.
I think the '84 miner's strike took the blinkers off for a lot of people.
