The real craziness is in the blanket refusal to make exceptions to Sydney's curfew in extreme weather conditions, particularly for long haul flights into Sydney.

Not really, we're talking Oz here Andu!

There's no reason that can be done at Sydney.

Yes there is a reason, it's lack of political intestinal fortitude!

Selling it, I don't believe, was a particularly great thing to do, ideologically correct thing to do at the time almost certainly, raise a quick buck, absolutely, but not necessarily in the national interest....

bosnich71 20th Feb 2014 07:55

Andu, I know absolutely nothing about curfews at Tullamarine but I do know that I spent many an hour in the early hours of the morning, i.e. between midnight and 6 am, waiting for VIP jets to land. My question is .... is there a curfew only on take offs ?
Ps. I once went outside in the cold to see if I could see anything of one such business jet and not knowing his eta. Saw what I thought was his landing light approaching so decided to wait and got colder and colder over the course of the next half an hour until I realised it was a Star !

Andu 20th Feb 2014 08:02

Now, when do we revert to politics?
Ken, if you don't think Sydney airport and its curfew isn't 100% politics, I'd love to know what you think is.

500N 20th Feb 2014 08:03

Bo's

Tulla doesnt have a curfew.

Unless it has changed.

Back to politics...

Asylum seekers made rape threats: MP

A Papua New Guinea MP claims asylum seekers made threats to rape the mothers and sisters of local Manus Island detention centre guards in the lead-up to Monday's deadly riots.

Manus MP Ron Knight alleges G4S guards were subjected to foul language and abuse from asylum seekers.

"They made sexual (comments), saying they were going to get out and rape their mothers and their sisters," he told AAP.
Might this explain the apparently overly heavy reaction by the New Guineans when the detainees did break out?

SOPS 20th Feb 2014 08:19

500 is correct. No curfew in Melbourne. EK departs for KUL at 03.35.

bosnich71 20th Feb 2014 08:20

500 .... thanks for that. I don't recall anything taking off but some definitely landed.

SOPS 20th Feb 2014 08:23

I don't think these AS people have very many brains at all. I would prefer to stick hot needles in my eyes over telling a person from PNG that I was going to rape his wife. A quicker way to certain death I can not think of.

Perhaps these people are used to walking around in their own countries and threatening people and getting no come back.

bosnich71 20th Feb 2014 08:41

As Ken likes politics and as this is, nominally, an aviation site I thought that the following would be a suitable subject for us all to discuss ......

Serge Dassault, him of French Aeroplane fame, is under investigation by French police. He has been accused of buying votes in his home town of Corbeil - Essones (?), where he was mayor from 1995 t0 2009.
It is said that he and his cohorts targeted immigrant families with bribes to vote for him and his successor at elections. M.Dassault is the 4th.richest man in France, reputedly worth 13 Billion Euros, so he obviously needed the Mayors job. FFS !
Just to keep this on track as a local subject for us Aussies to discuss may I suggest that M.Dassault would have made a good leader of the Australian Labour Party.

P.s. oh alright then, a leader of an Australian Trade Union also.

......... and, just to keep everyone happy, the Liberal Party as well.

bosnich71 20th Feb 2014 08:45

Sops ... ref EK departure for K.L. you are absolutely correct. Myself and her indoors actually flew to U.K. 4 years ago on that flight .......... must be getting old. No change that, 'am old but, in defence, after midnight I'm usually in bed with a cup of Horlicks.

Just my first thought....they are all conversant in English? Or Farsi or Papua New Guinea Pigeon? How did inmates communicate with those PNG nationals (or Rascals) on the outside?

I may be missing something obvious (like a so called 'ALPBC' translator service) here, but it does seem more than a little odd, ..perhaps we're not supposed to ask?

I suppose we'll be denied transparency, because of 'Operational' reasons..

Andu 20th Feb 2014 09:49

Fleigs, it's 'pidgin' - and if you re-read the report, the threats were said to have been made to locally-recruited Papuan New Guinean guards who were within the camp as part of their job description, where I daresay they'd be quite 'up front and personal' with the detainees all day. (And just in case there are some readers here who are not familiar with the usually TOTALLY UNDISGUISED attitude of the vast majority of Middle Eastern males to people with black skin, they would be automatically looked upon, by the Arabs and Iranians among the detainees, as their absolute inferiors - both kuffur and kaffir.)

I heard the Manus MP who is the source of this report interviewed on the radio today. He came across as articulate, intelligent and quite switched on - (dare I say it, nothing like far too many Australian MPs, even Ministers of a recent Australian government). He even squeezed in a 'come on up to beautiful Manus Island' tourism spiel into the interview.

SOPS 20th Feb 2014 10:22

Thanks Andu, your bolding was exactly what I was trying to say in my previous post, but could not figure out how to put it into words.

SOPS 20th Feb 2014 10:25

On another note, I don't remember the Indonesians complaining we were in their waters when we were picking country shoppers up and taking them to Australia. Seems only to be a problem when we are sending them back.

Indonesia calls for end to Australia's boat turn-back policy, says it led to Navy incursions - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

500N 20th Feb 2014 10:26

They picked the wrong lot of "blacks" to f#ck with !!!

I agree re the bold, they would certainly be looked at as "inferior",
along the lines of servants back home.

dubbleyew eight 20th Feb 2014 10:30

why can't the australian navy sail into indonesian waters?
we are not at war with them.

500N 20th Feb 2014 10:38

Protocols.

You can sail past Indonesia in International waters as China did the other week
but general rule is, you don't enter territorial waters or airspace without permission.

And a whole load of written paperwork etc that goes on beforehand.

Ref the Bali Bombings, some very quick footwork was done to get the
Auusie Hercs over there quickly with military personnel on board.

Fliegenmong 20th Feb 2014 10:44

Yeah Andu I always thought it was 'Pidgin' as well, foolishly I looked it up on the innynet and the first thing that came up was Pidgeon....should have gone with the gut instinct..:ok:

And truth be told I never read the article......limited time, so I just went on what was posted here, I can understand the direct contact now....common language?

Here we go again.....

WHEN police found drugs in a Bali villa, Sydney woman Leeza Tracey Ormsby repeatedly told them: “It’s not mine, it doesn’t belong to me.”
New details have emerged of the moment the Australian tourist was arrested in Kuta, just two days after the release last week of Schapelle Corby.
As this article says in a few paragraphs, she’s not an Australian, she’s a Kiwi living in Sydney. Like the thousands of other Kiwis taking advantage of our open door welfare system. So why do the Australian media persist with this habit of naming everyone that’s been here for five minutes an Australian (eg Mel Gibson, Russell Crowe, all of Crowded House etc etc).

The 37-year-old’s denials came within minutes of police pouncing, after they watched her walk towards a villa where she was not staying but for which she had a key. As she was about to unlock the door to a villa called Anggrek in the small Askara villa complex in Kuta, a police officer, who had been waiting, approached her from behind.
She was escorted into the villa and about six other officers appeared — apparently after a tip-off about drugs in the villa which had been rented for three nights by an Australian man known only as Azaria and his girlfriend.
Yep, ‘Azaria’ is his real name.....for sure.....

Details of the arrest of Ormsby, who has been in jail since Wednesday last week, came from the villa’s supervisor, Gede Wijaya, who was on duty at the time and asked by police to witness the arrest and search. Mr Wijaya said that inside the villa, police searched Ormsby’s handbag and after pulling out what appeared to be a joint of hashish asked her what it was. She replied: “I don’t know, I don’t know.”
He said police then took Ormsby to the villa’s bedroom and to the wardrobe area where a drawer inside the wardrobe was locked.
Ormsby allegedly had the key in her handbag and police instructed her to open the drawer. Inside they found the drugs which have now landed Ormsby in jail and facing a maximum 20-year sentence — 132.2 grams of MDMA and 26.06 grams of hashish. Mr Wijaya said police asked Orsmby “Is this drugs or not?” and that Ormsby replied: “I don’t know, I don’t know, it doesn’t belong to me.”
Police then asked who owned it. “I don’t know, I don’t know.” He said at the time Ormsby appeared to be crying and was upset. Mr Wijaya said that Ormsby was not staying at the villa as a guest but was a friend of the guests in the room. The guest, an Australian man he knew only as Azaria, had rented the one-bedroom villa for three nights, from February 9-12, with his girlfriend and paid 3 million rupiah in cash for the villa. During that time Ormsby and five to seven other people had come and gone from the villa but there were no loud parties. The man and his girlfriend checked out about 8pm on February 11, telling Mr Wijaya they were headed to the airport. He had called them a taxi.
People coming and going but no loud parties........sounds like.....?

It was at 8am the next morning that Ormsby, with the villa and drawer keys in her bag, was followed to the villa by police and arrested. Orsmby, a New Zealand national who had been living in Paddington in Sydney, was on holiday in Bali at the time and was staying at a private bungalow complex, known as Villa Charles, within walking distance of Villa Askara on the other side of the road.
On Thursday the man who is renting the bungalow property said he had only moved in after Ormsby’s arrest, after signing a two-year lease and had never met Ormsby or her friends. He did not want to give his name but said he was upset, angry and shocked that people he did not know had been allowed to stay at his new home. After Ormsby’s arrest police had come to collect her belongings from the bungalow.
So she was staying in one villa, but had a key for another? Naaahh....nothing suspicious ‘bout that!

She is now spending her ninth day in a jail cell at the Denpasar city police station where she is sharing a cell with about three other women prisoners and sleeping on a mat on the concrete floor. There are currently 57 male prisoners and eight females in the police jail. Her lawyer, Ary B Soenardi, said yesterday that Ormsby is stressed and feels ashamed about the case, especially since it hit the news.
He said her family was not in Bali and she had no friends visiting her, except New Zealand consulate staff.
Mr Soenardi said he had given her an Indonesian-English dictionary so that she can learn some Indonesian to communicate with the other prisoners.
Police will hold a press conference on Friday about Ormsby’s arrest.
My take - dumb-ass Kiwi bint and 'Azaria' were in cahoots flogging drugs to other stupid white-eyes in Bali. It appears 'Azaria' bailed in time, leaving dumb-ass carrying the can.
The stupidity of some people knows no bounds. Schapelle Corby is a household name in Australia, and I’m pretty sure the case is known fairly well in other countries as well. Therefore the policy of Indonesia with respect to drug use is well known. Why do Australians (and Kiwis, evidently) assume that Bali is a northern suburb of Perth, replete with a spineless judiciary who prioritise the criminal over and above the public? I’m sure this is not lost on the Indonesians as well, which is probably p*ssing them off mightily.
Stuff the stupid Kiwi bint – she can rot in jail as far as I’m concerned.
