Fleigs ..... what I get from the British Government is not Welfare as you and many others in Australia seem to think .
Clare Prop and Airey have explained it well enough.

Andu ... I don't consider myself to be a 'special case' because I am British born but now living in Australia, as an Australian citizen, and I'm sure neither do the vast majority of others in like circumstances.

Worrals ... Packer didn't take up citizenship of another country but then he didn't pay a great deal of Australian Taxes either. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...cons/icon7.gif

P.s.
Australians, or any other nationality for that matter, working in the U.K. I believe for over 5 years, and having paid into the National Insurance Scheme, is entitled to a Pension paid pro rata on contributions made to that scheme.
It should be added that joining the N.I. Scheme is not compulsory but joining does carry considerable advantages which far outweigh the amounts paid in and pensions paid out especially if one is only working in Britain for a relatively short time as are most Australians.
I don't think that there are many who knock it back.

"Packer didn't take up citizenship of another country but then he didn't pay a great deal of Australian Taxes either. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...cons/icon7.gif"

And became a hero to a lot of people when he said what he said !

bosnich71 6th Feb 2014 23:03

500N .... "and became a hero" etc., yes and gave me the s***s when he used to appear in that advert on T.V. in front of Sydney Harbour and spout off about what a wonderful country Australia was.
No argument from me about that sentiment but at that time I was being removed from 30% of my income every week while that scumbag was paying S.F.A. !
Then again he did buy a second hand Russian airyplane only to find, when flown to Oz. that it was full of corrosion. Not that, moneywise, it would have bothered him but it was just the thought that someone had put one over on him that gave me some satisfaction.

500N 6th Feb 2014 23:13

It would have bothered him.

I was being removed more than 30% (what was it, 47 or 49% ?) until I got my tax deductions and other methods of decreasing tax sorted out.

And of course then you were paying 17% interest rates on your house !!!

Predicted demise of manufacturing industry did not materialise.
Just took a few more years, that's all.

500N 7th Feb 2014 02:13

"Just took a few more years, that's all."

That was because so much fat around it, it took longer to trim down than they thought.

Interesting item on Michael Smith News about the "Australian Submarine",i.e. lifeboat, that has landed on an Indonesian beach.
The,translated, news report from a local Indonesian newspaper quotes the passengers as being from Iran, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. Up until now I'd never considered anyone from those countries to be in danger and in need of Asylum but I suppose Sarah would disagree as would no doubt others.
The report also quotes 'Article 120 of some Indonesian law or other which makes interesting reading also.

Perhaps Tony Abbott should take some lessons from this bloke?

I LIKE THE SOUND OF THIS MAN

A maverick mayor, elected after promising to slash council spending, clear the streets of yobs and ditch politically correct services, is the torchbearer for how towns should be run.

On his first morning as Mayor of Doncaster in South Yorkshire , Peter Davies cut his salary from 73,000 to 30,000 then closed the council's newspaper for "peddling politics on the rates".

Now three weeks into his job, Mr Davies is pressing ahead with plans he hopes will see the number of town councillors cut from 63 to just 21, saving taxpayers 800,000. Mr Davies said: "If 100 senators can run the United States of America , I can't see how 63 councillors are needed to run Doncaster ".

He has withdrawn Doncaster from the Local Government Association and the Local Government Information Unit, saving another 200,000. Mr Davies said, "They are just talking shops".

" Doncaster is in for some serious untwinning. We are twinned with probably nine other cities around the world and they are just for people to fly off and have a binge at the council's expense".

The mayor's chauffeur-driven car has also been axed by Mr Davies and the driver given another job. Mr Davies, born and bred in Doncaster, swept to power in the May election with 24,244 votes as a candidate for the English Democrats, a party that wants tight immigration curbs, an English Parliament and a law forcing every public building to fly the flag of St. George.

He has promised to end council funding for Doncaster 's International Women's Day, Black History Month and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month. He said, "Politicians have got completely out of touch with what people want."

"We need to cut costs. I want to pass on some savings I make in reduced taxes and use the rest for things that we really need, like improved children's services".

Mr Davies has received messages from well wishers across the country and abroad as news of his no-nonsense approach spreads.

Now it's your chance to spread this most sensible way to run a town council.
Can you imagine how the huggy fluffs like SHY and the "Yarts" lobby would scream if a politician tried something like this here?

From the same source ..... Mr. Krudd is to establish the
"National Apology Foundation" which he will chair.( naturally).

The foundation will be launched at a fund raising function by the end of the year with a key mandate to ensure the apology remains in the national memory in the future.

No doubt if Krudd has his way all of us of "Neo-Fascist" leanings will be subjected to incarceration in a 're-education facility'. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ies/wbored.gif

I like that Mr Davies.

We need a few more of him in the world.

CoodaShooda 7th Feb 2014 03:21

Does that mean Mr Rudd is going to apologise to the nation?

bosnich71 7th Feb 2014 03:54

Cooda ..... I can't stop laughing at that. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...cons/icon7.gifhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...cons/icon7.gifhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...cons/icon7.gifhttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...cons/icon7.gif

The Gov't isn't wasting time re AS and cutting off every avenue they have if they come by illegal means.

Two dads has reared her ugly head to complain about the Gov't bringing in
"a ''backdoor'' alternative visa arrangement to the controversial temporary protection visa, meaning asylum seekers who arrive in Australia by boat or plane without valid visas will never get permanent residency. Under the ''Temporary Humanitarian Concern'' visa, refugees will not be permitted to apply for family reunions, nor will they be able to settle in Australia."

"Greens Senator and immigration spokesperson Sarah Hanson Young said the move was a ''sinister subverting of the legal and parliamentary process from a shifty government". "This is the government trying to reintroduce Temporary Protection Visas through the back door," h Senator Hanson-Young said.
Giving temporary visas to refugees has been widely criticised by human rights groups for more than a decade.

May well have been a breath of fresh air for Doncaster but unfortunately the Communist Republic of South Yorkshire re-elected a Labour administration and matters rapidly reverted to the dismal norm.

SOPS 7th Feb 2014 05:54

I hope this guy is put on the next plane out.

Sex crime charges laid against man 'married' to 13yo girl - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

bosnich71 7th Feb 2014 06:10

SOPS ... shouldn't think so. It's probably the norm. is some cultures so must be respected.

500N 7th Feb 2014 06:11

I doubt it although it would be good.

Captain Sand Dune 7th Feb 2014 07:20

I hope this guy is put on the next plane out.
Another glowing endorsement for multi-culturalism.

And the predominant religion of illegal immigrants is.....?

SOPS 7th Feb 2014 07:51

Could not agree more, Captain. A message needs to be sent to these people, just because your religion says its ok, does not make it acceptable here.

500N 7th Feb 2014 08:14

Aust didn't seem to have the problem with other immigrants or as.
