The best post for a while, david.
No wonder the Chinese have worked out why we're going so cheap.
If it wasn't so funny...

megan 10th Aug 2016 07:00

Well.....the census was a roaring success.
Logged in mid yesterday afternoon and completed it with absolutely no trouble. I wonder if those having trouble getting to the site was because their internet provider was log jammed.

Hempy 10th Aug 2016 08:22

The ABS are blaming cyber DOS attacks about 7:30pm that forced them to shut down the server. Their social media sites were still telling people to log on at 9:30pm

You had one job..

Ovation 10th Aug 2016 08:28

I'm bemused by all the media controversy surrounding the census and security of data. In particular I refer to public figure Nick Xenophon, who has the spotlight on him continuously. Is he simply a media tart?

For those who have previously applied for an ASIC, the only questions not asked there are income, religion and who else lives at your address.

The Census did NOT:

Require certified copies of your Driver's Licence
Require 100 points ID
Question about pending or prior criminal convictions
Check your status with ASIO, Crimtrac or Department of Immigration
Ask you for a recent mugshot.

They really don't need to involve us - between ATO, SAPOL and other State, Commonwealth and Local authorities, they could do (most of) it without us.

CoodaShooda 10th Aug 2016 08:51

Logged on and started to complete the census yesterday but fell at the first hurdle.

It wouldn't accept '0' as the number of people resident in the house yesterday.

Wife and I are overseas, aren't we. :E

ABS's solution is to ask us to call their support team on a local Australian number. No international caller number offered.

Sorry ABS. I can't afford the call charges at the moment.

Errr .... yes, I think that would be a reasonable appraisal.

TWT 10th Aug 2016 09:58

CoodaShooda, you don't have to bother with it :)

Overseas on Census night
If you are not in Australia on Census night, you are not required to complete the Census. If you're overseas on Census night, we use the information collected on overseas departure cards from Australia's ports and airports to add Australian residents back in - you will still be counted.
mmm
mmmm

FullOppositeRudder 10th Aug 2016 10:14

The census debacle should put any proposals/demands to conduct federal elections online well into the background for a while .........

CoodaShooda 11th Aug 2016 05:34

But the Overseas Departure Card does not show my Religion (Jedi Knight) or Aboriginal Heritage (most important for attracting greater federal funding for the NT). :(:E

Stanwell 11th Aug 2016 06:55

It's a bit of a worry, isn't it?
A fervent agnostic of uncertain heritage.
I can't find the box to tick.
While I do try to fulfil my social obligations, I'm going to have to pass on this one..
These clowns are still drawing their pay, though, I'll bet.

Flying Binghi 11th Aug 2016 08:10

turnBull comments on the census and then it fails...
Seems anything that corrupt turnBull clown gets involved in turns to shiyte..:hmm:

18C

"...Coalition frontbenchers have been banned from supporting firebrand senator Cory Bernardiís proposal to amend the Racial Discrimination Act, dooming the free-speech crusade to failure..."

Tony Abbott has said he regrets not pursuing this issue when he were PM... so where is he now ?

Written, spoken and authorised by Andrew Bolt.

Don't worry Binghi, Pauline will ride in on her big white stallion and save your day. Surely.

TWT 18th Aug 2016 12:42

Two Australians sought over Bali police death

This will really help Indo-Australian relations. Not that they could be much worse.

Anyway, the Bali authorities are considering making Bali a dry zone soon anyway,so that'll mean the yobbos will have to find somewhere else to trash.

Nah mate, just wondering where your political allegiances lie. I'm tipping you didn't vote Labor or Greens in the last election, and I'm pretty sure you didn't vote for the Liberal led 'turnBull'. So who's left for you other than One Nation? (btw, the same One Nation that the Howard/Abbott lot tried ruin with slush funds, court orders etc before stealing their policies).

Maybe Bolt should run for parliament. He could be Australias Donald Trump!

"Australia's Donald Trump..." Dick Smith for Prime Minister!..

As for One Nation. Whilst there is much positive about O.N., I don't like their anti Chinese immigration ideas. I grew up in Darwin when its rich Chinese history were still obvious. Many of the kids I knew at school had Chinese blood. They contributed to the building of Darwin and Oz.

I recall many years ago that it were the new chum Italians and Greeks that were the 24/7 workers slaving away out there paying their taxs and making a positive contribution to Oz. Then it were the turn of the Vietnamese and they were out there contributing to Oz. Now, on the week-end I drive around the big city industrial area and I note it is the new chum Chinese small business man still working 24/7 when all others have taken the week-end off. So I think we need that positive contribution of the new Chinese and other non-islamic Asian immigrants..

Of interest, here's a vid of the buildings bombed in Darwin 42 and the names of the owners. Many Chinese names: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=99FkXYpd2F8

Would that be Darwin High or Nightcliff High, flying binghi?
Must agree about the Chinese in Darwin as well as the Greeks and Italians.

Hempy appears to have no politicall affiliation and wanders around shit stirring on various threads.

Pauline Hanson rocks👍

Stanwell 19th Aug 2016 02:02

Well Owen,
The Chinese Government now effectively owns the port of Darwin - but only for 99 years, so that's OK.

As for Pauline, despite her intellectual handicaps, she does have that knack of asking uncomfortable questions.
More power to your elbow, sweetie.

owen meaney 19th Aug 2016 02:14

That is a worry Stanwell, hopefully they don't tow it off to China at some time. Keep us posted if it disappears

parabellum 22nd Aug 2016 22:07

Hope this isn't true but on the news this morning it is saying that the legislation Marshmallow Malcom intends to introduce to Parliament to protect volunteers against rabid unionism won't be retrospective and may be of no use to the Victorian CFA at all.:uhoh:

SOPS 25th Aug 2016 07:54

And in other news....SHY has been removed as immigration spokes person for the Greens.

Takan Inchovit 25th Aug 2016 09:11

Where did they stick her?

SOPS 25th Aug 2016 09:27

Education portfolio

Takan Inchovit 25th Aug 2016 09:41

Grooming perhaps?

parabellum 26th Aug 2016 00:14

Could it be that the Greens have finally decided that their immigration policy isn't the best for Australia after all and they will now fall in with the current government policy?

Or could it be that the proverbial is about to hit the fan regarding some gem about SHY?!

Carbon capture and storage article advocating immediate commencement in Guardian UK.

https://www.theguardian.com/environm...ns-says-report

In Australia the climate change groups regard carbon capture and storage as right wing drivel, apparently in UK the left wing climate change crusading newspaper print an article advocating it as cost effective compared to all renewables there except on shore wind.

Solar in UK will be more expensive per kw than in Australia due geography, but fascinating to see UK left wing paper printing this.

SOPS 12th Sep 2016 11:16

Just watching the vision of the latest attack by a follower of the ' religion of peace'. Very scary stuff. One person interviewed made a very good point....he said we must talk about the threats we face and not be shut down by the left screaming racist.

The Right eating their own is such a comforting spectator sport, especially now that they've had so much practice and are starting to get good at it. All I need is some popcorn.

Stanwell 13th Oct 2016 08:37

It is funny, isn't it?
It had been observed that, when some people are so far up themselves, it's difficult for them to see or hear anything outside.
The shame is that we're paying for it.
Waiter ... another round, please.

I thought for a moment that you were referring to readers of The Age.

Stanwell 14th Oct 2016 08:07

Well..
Mind you, you're close there.
Not that I have much time for the tripe published by The Age, but Herald-Sun readers can be confident
that they really know what's going on - because Rupert told them so.

p.s. .. Clive, when you've sorted your legal problems up there in Queensland, would you mind popping down here to give us a steer?

George Brandis

..what a knob.

Thankfully, his senatorial surrogates McDonald, O'Sullivan and Reynolds were comprehensively outgunned 1 to 3 by Justin Gleeson today.

Justin is a Public Servant, why is he getting involved in politics?

Ken Borough 16th Oct 2016 09:08

Justin is a Public Servant, why is he getting involved in politics?
He's not, on both counts! Justin Gleeson the Commonwealth Solicitor-General, a statutory office. Unlike Public Servants, he can't be sacked except by vote of the Parliament. And he's not getting involved in politics: rather, he's objecting to a direction that he conscientiously believes to be invalid. I'd back Gleeson in the intellectual and legal stakes over Brandis. It seems to me that our George is always the odd man out - the sooner he's shown the door, the better.

le Pingouin 16th Oct 2016 15:35

Yes, George isn't particularly good at either politics or law.
