I'll let you into a secret, Mr Draper. Between the lot of us we have about fifteen words of Latin, plus a tag or two. These fifteen plus put us fourteen ahead ahead [edit: the unintentional repetition of the word immediately preceding I could well have called a typo or mistake, which it was; how much more plonking to confess to "dittography"] of the crowd, and allow of endless innocent plonking. Verb. sap.

Davaar

Illegitimi non carborundum (I believe an old Harvard song)

AKA

"Don't let the bastards grind you down"...

Actually it should be written "carborundi"

..... as confirmed by Mommsen.

P. S. The opposite of dittography is "haplography". Gosh, we are off to a truly boring week.

I did Latin at my under-achieving grammar school. This is one bit I can remember: Caesar ad sum iam forte - passus sum sed Brutus.

It is surprising though, now that I am learming Spanish, how helpful those lessons were all that time ago. Let's see: Los Alemanes estلn invadiendo Mلlaga, con sus toallas.

Yup - no difference there then...

Would you empty a skip with this written on the side:

إذا كانت هذه أول ز'ارة لك، تأكد من مراجعتك لقسم المعلومات بالنقر عل' الرابط أعلاه. وقد 'لزمك التسج'ل قبل أن تستط'ع المشاركة: انقر

Jeez! Don't do skips like they used to!

I would empty a skip with that written on the side, but only of those items I actually wanted, as that is the finest and truest form of recycling there is. I would leave all the crap, as one man's crap is another man's poison. (or words to that effect)

I once had a cardboard box called Dave. He lasted for nearly five years of weekly shopping. He served us well, but eventually he fell apart.

This is the way of all things.

If you had a cardboard box made out of diamond, theoretically it could last for years.
A Buckminsterfullerene cardboard box would also be very robust, but if you have the choice, always go for the diamond one.
