We are not alone.......
I am well aware that I am not the only one of our professional fraternity who is becoming more concerned about the presence of unqualified and knowledge-starved intruders on this forum.
Perhaps we should be pleased that most of the information on here is factual, short, professional opinion. That it now finds itself so easily into the hands of "outsiders" because of lack of security checks eg. PROFESSIONAL licence details, employer, aviation professional body membership, worries me.
When this information is distorted by journalists or commented on by psychopolitical geeks who have an adverse, ill-considered opinion about everything then I become a little annoyed.
Whenever I check on the profile of such outspoken loudmouths to form my own opinion of their contribution, I am faced with absolutely zilch information of their authoritative right to be included in the discussion. There is absolutely nothing in their profiles to enable us to judge. Full profiles should be a must for any consideration to participate.
Thus we are suffering from the fact that these people are allowed to supply misinformation at all. It is treated as gospel by the media and PPRuNe's reputation as a mouthpiece for the aviation business becomes a farce.
I prefer to read educated comment from my peers and then to make my own judgement without the diversion of some self-opinionated, nameless twit on a personal agenda and who hasn't a real clue about what we do.
As we've always done, give us the true facts and then we'll await the outcome of the enquiry..........

Fair observation, however what about those of us who are retired and therefore no longer have current licences on our profiles ? Surely our experience counts for something ?
The issue with profiles is that people can dream up anything they like in the knowledge that it can't be verified.
Unfortunately "leakage" and interference by unqualified and/or malicious people is a consequence of the internet.

I believe that if you had to have an accreditation or licence to use most of the features of the internet, including your own name in a forum and having it verified, then it would cut down on the scamming, hate and general lawlessness of the internet.
However who manages the accreditor? The Government or Big Tech? They are equally as lawless.
Internet v2 would be a huge leap of faith but would have so many benefits - especially keeping out undesirables from other actors - although it is a short step to Big Brother.
Perhaps there could be two internets?

This is a repetitive gripe and is quite pointless.
Anyone who has been, or is, professionally involved in aviation will have sufficient experience to spot the 'wrong 'uns and react accordingly. If you are unable to distinguish important errors from context and written style, the apparent qualifications will not help. As to journalists using extracts from PPRuNe as source material, the same criterion applies.
PPRuNe has worked well for the 20 plus years during which i have been a member and the change from Danny's ownership has settled down to the comfort of old slippers. Perhaps you should initiate a separate forum with the sort of iron-clad rules which you seek ?

This is one of a million commercial forums on the internet. It's free to use and its function is to make money through advertising for its owners. If it does that, they will be happy. If it doesn't, they'll make changes. It's highly unlikely they search through these pages looking for strategic marketing or business change advice.

I've been a member here for 17 years and I find it to be worth every dollar I paid for it!
I've also been a member of a private forum for almost as long and it too is worth what I pay for it.
The difference between the two is that one I pay in currency to be a member and was required to provide my professional credentials in order to be accepted as a member. The other is free of charge but literally anyone can join the conversation.
Exclusivity costs money and free access requires a bit more effort to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Pick your poison!

I post on a forum that’ seems to be just pilots, a “forum for flyers” sort of thing.
Occasionally here…
both are free…
If I want advice on flying, I post in the other one, last discussion I participated in here, was the one where a lad said he’d landed a Cessna after a few hours on a Sim practising.
The other one is moderated by pilots, they don’t want their forum covered in rubbish.

Yep, I can only agree with you, kghjfg.
Funny that the few who would pontificate on a PROFESSIONAL PILOTS forum viewpoint appear to be engineers............
Sad that......

Two possibilities for the #12 post l
The OP is a troll
The OP is in urgent need of aviation CRM, as distinct from the Flight Deck variety !
One slight possibility could be that he/she is a licensed engineer, builder of single seat 'puddle-jumpers' and operates in an area which allows unsupervised 'cowboy operators'
A quick internet search will unearth the series of videos incoporating 'Children of the Magenta'. The series and the principles espoused within them make worthwhile viewing for those who feel that they have accumulated a treasury of knowledge and skills which could be contaminated by others, possibly, less gifted !

If you're struggling to tell the Pilots from the Non-Pilots round here then this probably isn't the place for you.
Because, quite honestly it's usually pretty damn obvious.
But I do get what you're saying about journalists roaming around here and taking away erroneous bits of intel.

I actually just threw the idea around to see what sort of reaction it would provoke.
There actually is no satisfactory solution to the question of misrepresentation by contributors, journalists or anybody else who finds their way on to this forum.
Without allowing visibility, it will always be difficult to nail somebody's appropriate ID.
It used to be done by checking handwriting but now we have the sad present-day situation that you can maintain your immunity by hiding behind false credentials, using IT.
We will continue to get a great deal of sound advice from the more stable members of the group but supported by the odd bit of the usual BS and superior comment from the more precious and opinionated of our number..........

Jokes aside I knew of a French forum for pilots (About 15-20 years ago) That was initially set up to help "Expat" from said country. Rules number One was to post with your real name and give a sort of brief resume of yourself in your profil. Moderators had to approve your inscription via email if I recall correctly.
Like PPRuNe it had all kind of sub-forums and was doing great. Now it is pretty much dead.
Facebook and WhatApps groups sort of replaced the idea of having to identify yourself and show your credentials on line before posting (While I recon you can set up whatever profil you want on those)
Don't forget the mods on PPRuNe, they do an amazing unseen job! A lot of the crap posted get filtered out without even you or me noticing it

You seem to forget, but without Engineers, you are just a naff sunglass wearing pedestrian.
