Why were you banned ?

I was banned for having been taught English by an elderly spinster.
Perhaps true as I attended the oldest, still existing, primary school in England. Maybe there was a ghostly spinster hidden in one of the cupboards.
Why were you banned ?

How many replies do you expect to get from people who were banned?

I was banned from PPRuNe years ago (for 7 days) after a " merger" between AA and TWA.
Some disagreement about pilot seniority integration of course: A pilot from the other side threatened my arse saying life is cheap in South
America and he would see me there.
Told him to go fornicate himself, but I got banned instead of the guy making the death threat.
(April 2001 or thereabouts)

I got banned because the Admins mistook my IP for that of the infamous "Guvnor". Quickly sorted out after sending a PM to the admin team. How it happened I know not, but there I was, banned!!

Disagreeing publically with a mod who took it upon themselves to selectively edit/delete posts if they didn’t conform with the desired groupthink….

For saying Greta Thunberg was mentally unwell. Big cyber pile on. Moderator ban for 1 month. Can’t say it has affected my life or that I care very much. Mustn’t upset the wokesters! There’s probably more important stuff to worry about now.

Since the young lady has aspergers your claim was correct!

No offense, and at risk of offending the anti-woke crowd, Asperger’s is more a different way the mind works than an extreme mental illness.

I’m absolutely sure that many highly dedicated and useful scientists and engineers may have Asperger’s to some degree. Or perhaps some aspect of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

What about dyslexics? Are they mentally ill because their brain is wired in such a way that it makes it difficult for them to read? This may make them appear to be stupid according to standard tests, but that is often far from the case.

Marching to the beat of a different drummer is not always bad…

Oh, never been banned however I was threatened with a ban on the Mil forum after denigrating the VC-10 (sacrilege I know) back in 2008... can't remember what I said about it now but I had the entire forum gunning for revenge. Mod pm'd me and asked me to withdraw the post implying if I didn't I'd be withdrawn from the forum

I have both a daughter and a niece with aspergers and you are correct it isn't a 'mental illness' as people generally understand it but in the manner it affects other issues such as eating disorders it is very much a mental condition.

I thank you for that clarification - because a former Boss, for whom I have utmost respect, once suggested, in a kindly and complimentary way, that maybe, I have some form of Asperger's - and I have long thought that, maybe, just maybe, he is right.

Although I have been banned on occasion my last run in with a moderator he accused me of "Late night handbags and squabbles"

My response was to ask for clarification on that in the form of
"You’ll have to explain “late night handbags and squabbles” to me."
The response I got amazed me.

"You'll have to" is a bit OTT for a Christmas communication, don't you think?

Sometime ago now, can't remember what I was posting but it was removed with the comment " No one is interested in your interminable stories"

Occasionally lurk, as now, but won't participate of that is the opinion of my comments.

Goodbye.

You can get banned for stating something that is perfectly true in the areas of race and religion. Your facts may be correct but if the mods don't like it, you're sent off the pitch.

However political discussion seems to be given a relatively free rein as long as it doesn't get too extreme. Diverse and opposing views are well represented on Jet Blast.

A thread on Margaret Thatcher's time in power gets a lot more latitude than one on Muslim immigration.

Should you have aspergers you have some famous company.

Once banned because a Ppruner didn't like a photo showing the realities of war and complained to the mods.

I think we’re all on the spectrum somewhere to be honest.

We’ve all got little idiosyncrasies that if interfered with, cause irritation. If anyone has watched the Julia Robert’s film, Sleeping with the Enemy, she has a husband who is clearly well along the spectrum. I don’t consider myself quite as extreme but there’s a scene where she frantically ensures the towels are hanging straight on the bathroom radiator because she knows it will bring his wrath upon her. I’m a towel adjuster. I can’t walk past if I see our family towels slung casually across the radiator. I don’t savage the offender, but for my own peace of mind they need to be straight. I also get twitchy about blown lightbulbs. If one needs replacing, doesn’t matter what time of night, it has to be done.
