It could probably also deal with Iran and North Korea as well if it wanted, but that would be total war.
The Chinese and Russian military aren't that great, even though we are led to believe they are.
The Taiwanese along with US stationed troops in the vicinity would be able to give China a message that they aren't going to win.
The Chinese may be able to field a million troops, but that isn't much good if they can't get across the Straits of Taiwan.
Without being Hawkish, a message should be sent to Moscow, we ain't pissin around anymore.

Civil war in days if RU invaded.
Lived Odessa for a while on and off and has always been waiting for an excuse under the surface, tensions palpable.
Ethnic Russians vs Ukrainians.
Russian feelings about Ukraine are so complex I don't even fully understand them after twenty years here.
Wise to look at Transnistria as they will assist Russia as would Belarus.

Xmas Eve, with the westerners drunk and disorderly, the Chinese satellites turn off the GPS and comms satellites, their hackers shut down the power systems and the Huawei phones all shut down the cell towers, China walks into Taiwan and nobody knows about it, Russia walks into Ukraine, and the whole nasty mess slowly dawns on the west a few days later. The world has changed, not much to be done about it.

This is not September 1939.
Which is both good and bad. We have no real Treaty obligations to force the West to act. The Germans and French will do nothing. For obvious reasons.
Either way Putin and Xi win.
And the West is impotent.

I am totally willing to listen to the views of others.
How does this differ in any significant way and I do mean significant, from the Cuban Missile situation !

Russian and Ukraine? Not even close. The west will do nothing over an invasion of Ukraine, other than protest and bring in some sanctions. There will be exactly zero thought to sending troops.
So to your question. The CMC saw a threat to each side, the current situation sees no threat to either side (of the “superpowers”). In the end Russia would take Ukraine easily, it just comes down to how fast they take it.

The most significant point is that the Cuban missile crisis was between two superpowers. Forcing one or the other to back down.
