What a shame. A great musician in his own right and certainly the best of the four. Brings back memories of "Daydream Believer", the first "45" I ever bought.
RIP, green woolly bobble hatted, Monkee Mike.
This was one of my favourite songs where he took the lead vocals:

I loved the Monkees TV show back when it was originally on the air, and was a fan of their music. I also saw them perform live back in the mid 1970's (one of the original members was missing, but 45 years later I can't remember which one it was).
A year or two back, one of the 'classic' TV channels was showing old re-runs of the Monkees, so I set up the DVR to record them. I guess my tastes were a bit different back then - the plots were so silly that after I watched a couple episodes, I deleted the rest (as well as the DVR 'record' instruction).
Still liked the music though.
