Just to be clear, that is not an Olympic issue, it happened in the European championships and has been handed out by the European Handball Federation.
Still utterly despicable though. Good on em.

Oh good grief - but then there wasn't really another explanation for their tactics. I thought she was a bit pleased about coming second.

Just another example of youngsters not being able to cope without modern technology

Ok. Just turned the TV on and the olympics were on. It was… skateboarding! When did this become an Olympic event. It was as boring as mud! Sure doing some tricks, but they move so slowly, it doesn’t really grab your attention.

Have to agree that the Olympic cycling road races were really good races, with unexpected twists.

It is truly rare for the early break to succeed in an event like that and for Anna Kiesenhofer to attack from the outset in the womens’ event and have the better of the incredibly dominant Dutch team with Vos, Vollering, Van Vleuten AND Van der Breggen was an incredible coup. They can complain about communication difficulties; but counting how many are up the road in the break and who has been caught isn’t challenging arithmetic when the total number is 5! Complacency was their downfall.

Carapaz rode super smart in the mens’ race and really deserved that win. Whilst the Belgian team, just like the Dutch above, seemed to underestimate the competition, burning really good riders on that huge climb to shred the peloton; which only left Van Aert isolated, surrounded by a group of elite climbers, none of whom wanting to end it in a sprint with him. Really strong team; the strongest rider; but poor tactics.

Dodgeball would be superior choice to skateboarding. They already have an international amateur championship in Las Vegas annually and a US professional league exists as well. It's not slow!

I may have to take back what I said earlier. 😁
Watching grass grow is more entertaining.
Why don't they have down hill races or Four-Cross like the snowboarding. Now that's entertainment.

Some Gold Medals for Team GB, that's a nice way to start the UK day! Also some silver and bronze as well.

How are the Russians allowed to compete as the ROC (Russian Olympic Committee). Does anyone know, without resorting to cut and paste please ?

We seem to have to have a word or theme to roll along with, a word that becomes ingrained in the mind, whether you like it or not. Brexit was a good one. That REALLY got right up one's nose. Seemingly never ending, it was years as the front runner, popping its head up every now and then, even now. Then, more recently, European football, pouring out of your telly at every opportunity.
Golf got a go at it, but only three days or so, thank goodness. Mustn't forget good old Dimplebum, of course.
Then came Covid. Covid here, there, and everywhere. I really wish that mentioning the disease could be banned entirely for 24 hours, just to give everyone a break from it. I'm sure that in itself would make everyone feel better, if only for a short while!
As said, Olympics. For some reason, it is appealing to me even much less than normal, and I find it is, and I cannot explain this, because it in in Japan!
Nothing against the nation (unusually) but it's the time difference. Half a planet away!
Thinks .........I wonder what the next must-have word or phrase or WHY is going to be? Suggestions anyone?

Then gain, UK is half a planet away and not the center of the world. Except Greenwich, of course.

"Pingdemic" already appears to have had a good shot. I wonder if following on from pandemic and pingdemic we'll have a crop of new words ending with the suffix "demic" - in late August possible "waspdemic", in spring "ladybirdemic"??

Another word that has really taken hold this year is the terrible American "staycation". In UK we don't have vacations, we have holidays, and since when was a holiday spent in one's own country somehow inferior to the (now apparently obligatory) overseas holiday - presumable now an "awaycation"!!

Since the weather, hotels, food, well just about everything is inferior here rather than overseas.

They are looking particularly good this year, looking forward to the annual pilgrimage to pick some nice ripe black ones for use in sauces and good old traditional English puddings. Crumble anyone?

I agree wholeheartedly; I was taking a pop at the stupid term "staycation".

Blackberry and apple pie with lashings of custard... mmmm.

Cue the usual old saw of "good year for berries - it's going to be a long harsh winter..." Trotted out every year and we see five snowflakes on January 23rd and it gets a bit breezy in Feb.

Two silvers for Team GB in the Triathlon events, that's pretty good going.

Did anyone see the Mens 200m Freestyle swimming final ? Team GB, Gold and Silver, charging in the last 50m to trounce the other competitors, and the first time since 1908 apparently.

I was up early yesterday morning, to get an early start on a journey, and switched the tellybox on to get the news. No news just olympics, and the skateboarding was on. It appeared to be a specialised part of the comp as the competitors seemed to be doing some sort of trick sliding down a handrail on some steps. These competitors are supposed to be the best of the best at this "sport", but the number of falls and errors was ridiculous, and as mentioned above, very slow.
