There's nothing wrong with supporting PETA:

Accepted (with a grin) in the spirit in which it's offered... I've an uneasy feeling that they would if they're hungry enough. There are reports of the little 'uggers nibbling into a whole lot of other things, whether for nutrition or other reasons I'm not sure. Electrical cable insulation is one of those things with more tragic consequences - not just for the critters, but it can (and has) resulted in building fires - one was reported last week interstate - the cause attributed to this very reason. For some reason they love getting stuck into styrofoam - they completely destroyed the packing for one of my amateur radio transceivers during one such plague.

The comments from the PETA shelia ( haven't seen her - she may not qualify as a shelia at all - rather a subspecies - they often are) drew some pretty interesting retorts from people in the real world. One woman who had been through several mouse plagues asked how her PETA convictions would allow her to respond with care and sensitivity if - as had happened to her on one occasion - several of the cute little beasties had run up the inside of the leg of her jeans whilst she was having a quiet nap in front of the TV!

Don't I know it. Came home from a long haul holiday February many years ago, really cold winter (-27 at RAF Shawbury) to find they had eaten all the insulation off the water header tanks in the roof. I had one 50-gallon and one 10-gallon block of ice. Took me about 4 days of freezing before I could turn on the heating and get a hot bath.
