Now that's funny

On the subject of needed repairs, are the cost differences between Asia's shipyards and European shipyards so great that it's economically worth it to trundle all the way back to the Far East from Europe ??

Ever Given now clear of the canal and bound for Qingdao according to her AIS. There is a picture on G.Captain on FB showing her to be completely light with tug escort whilst in the canal.

Would that be Qingdao in China? Visited the shipyard there many ears ago, pretty big facility if memory serves.

A major shipping port with a chequered history.

From Wiki:
Qingdao is a major seaport and naval base, as well as a commercial and financial center. It is home to electronics multinationals such as Haier and Hisense. The Jiaozhou Bay Bridge, links the main urban area of Qingdao with Huangdao district, straddling the Jiaozhou Bay sea areas. Its historic, German-style architecture and Tsingtao Brewery, the second largest brewery in China[6] are legacies of the German occupation (1898-1914).

Was a rather nice city with a great seaside cluttered wit beach houses. Unfortunately I visited during winter, but the beer still tasted great.

I would guess that if you know you are going to be waiting for a berth when you get to your destination, it makes sense to slow down and save some fuel

It'll be 04 Sparrows before I get me head down, so can't be @rsed to look back. Have we had revealed the cost of taking the Ever Given through? That's on a good day.

Half a million bucks!? That's worth a terrabang.

Ever Given now alongside In Qingdao.Draft had reduced to 7.8m so I'm assuming she's in a drydock/repair berth.

Will the public get to know what the damage is to the ship, or will it be considered proprietary information ?
