Even worse is the showing of premier league football with a very false soundtrack. I wonder how the fans who pay Sky Sports seemingly exorbitant fees feel? Personally I'd be happy to put football back into its niche.

Apart from some notable exceptions, eg Wilfred Emannuel-Jones, who farms in Devon and has a range of foods trading under the name The Black Farmer, it is fairly true to say that what I suppose we now call the BAME population has made little penetration into British agriculture and the life of the countryside in general. I once read the excellent journalist Sathnam Sanghera describing how he had proposed a trip out into the country to his elderly Asian mother, who couldn't understand why anyone would want to go back to the country after escaping the life of a peasant farmer in the sub-continent. It is true that the vast majority of this demographic live in towns, and as their wealth increases they do not aspire to move to a "place in the country" like many of the traditional "native British" but a more luxurious house in town. My daughter lives with her Asian partner in Nottingham, and he once told me he felt slightly uncomfortable on his visits to us in Cornwall, not because of any overt racism, but he just felt he "stood out" here. I rarely watch Countryfile anyway because I find several of the presenters very irritating. Anyway, the only "blackfaces" you are likely to see in the programme are of the four legged variety that you may encounter in Northern and Scottish sheep farms.

Nothing new here. The National Trust is intent on ruining the countryside by building roads and allowing 4x 4s in order to attract more ethnic minorities to, what they see, are almost white-only amenities.

Quite why it is necessary to destroy a public-good because some people don’t seem to enjoy what is already a free shared resource I fail to understand. I am reminded of a press release during the Vietnam War stating that, “In order to save the village it was necessary to destroy it.”

Where they make a desert, they call it peace - Tacitus.

Hue was not so much a village, more a city.

We live in the countryside in Yorkshire (when I am home) and we have 2nr 4X4, as otherwise we would not get out in winter. However they are correct in that the vast majority of the walking / ramblers / Cavalry we see are white, and probably north of 45 apart from the girls in the Cavalry, though this has changed slightly during the lock down with a younger demographic with children and joggers. It is pretty uncommon to see a person of a more ethnic background living up here, or indeed walking, but there are some, just not many.

The route being proposed to be tarmacked near Kendal is an old rail track abandoned in early 70,s, so I am not sure what the issue is, as it is not like you are putting tarmac up Skidaw ! In the lakes they do seem to want to almost preserve it to the nth degree, with the banning of various water sports and restrictions on planning and or development. If you are not careful it becomes a middle class 2nd home owners ghetto which is not good for the locals with regards getting housing, or indeed jobs. There are only so many tea shops and farm shops that an area can support !
Kind regards
Mr Mac

I love the way the article calls the roads Farm Tracks...they are public rights of way and these "off road vehicles" are actually driving on public roads
There is a rogue element of course like in anything but no more so than you get in any large town or city the idiots just tear around in a different type of vehicle.
Residents of country retreats do class themselves above others though hence should not have to endure what townies have to and should be given special treatment over the commoners...they are special people after all .
(I am an active member of GLASS and the TRF and through my work know a good deal about rights of way and how they are abused and illegally closed off by farmers and rural landowners)

It is not just the Ethnic Minorities that will benefit from this but the disabled as well, like my wife who has not been able to hike or even ramble for a number of years now.

You don’t do much of either Inside of a 4x4, and the proliferation of both those and scramble bikes are ruining an increasing number of paths and walkways before even making them legal to be used by such.

No wonder BAME people find the countryside daunting - it's daunting to white working class townie oiks like myself as well. As a boy scout I well recall been fired upon by an angry sheep farmer with a shotgun as we walked along the footpath on Carlton Moor that passed across his land.

Hate, hate, hate this twee virtue signalling pap ( Countryfile not this thread). Ghastly, with your John Craven, the sort of bloke who must have been a favourite with his girlfriends' mums.
Weather forecast useful but, to summarise and for the avoidance of doubt, I don't like the programme.

Agreed, and to add to that list footpaths that are abused and churned up by mountain bikes. Why can't people in the UK simply understand that footpaths are for the use of feet, whether walking, running, skipping, hopping or whatever and not for wheeled vehicles of any sort. Period!
