You're not the only one who's confused. I think some people just say things without thinking things through and unfortunately, that group includes the president. We have the H1-b visa ban in place now which can only hurt the US economy and now foreign students are being targeted. I might be wrong, but I see no other reason than xenophobia driving these restrictions.

I believe the Trumpster delegated immigration issues awhile back to his little wormy immigration czar, Stephen Miller. I also believe Stephen is the only WH advisor that the Trumpster listens to these days...

The students scheduled to come to the US in September can't get visas because our foreign embasies and consulates are closed. So even if the visa was approved, they can't actually get it issued. And if they could, Trump has locked down the border so they can't travel.

Of course, if you just want to see all foreigners out of the country, that's one way to do it. I understand the attitude, but i don't agree with it.
You honestly believe thereís no other visa type besides student? Take a read in the link and dispel yourself of that notion.

Visas are issued for very specific reasons. If that allowance is no longer available, the visa should no longer be valid.

Why even have visas if the users arenít able to utilize them as issued.

Screw the sodding visa's, there's much bigger fish to fry this weekend. The biggest one of which, is that Trump has issued his 36th pardon. Of those 36 pardons, 31 of them have been issued to people with whom he has, or had, a personal relationship.

Stone got pardoned for observing Omerta.

And I'll now stand back ready for my jaw dropping to me knees at how the Trumpists will defend that magnificent piece of swamp draining,

Marc Rich...Susan McDougal...Dan Rostenkowski...Roger Clinton --- a few to start with.

But you lot seem to think that all of political history began with Trump ruining the purity of the previous political class. Carry on with book burning and food boycotts -- that'll fix things.

They were all pardoned in the last throes of Clintonís Presidency. Presidents usually do this just before leaving office. Perhaps Trump is telling us something.

I didn't see the visa type for Student temporarily locked out of classes because of a pandemic. Can you point to it? Just as well you weren't around when OBGRAHAM was looking for his Green Card.

I love it! The whataboutary. "But but but CLINTON did it too" Where is that shining city upon a hill Ronald Reagan spoke about? The rest of the world looks on disgusted by the cowardice of Republicans who continue to act as accesories to Trump's foolishness. Only Mitt Romney seems to still have balls..

Not all students will have or be allowed access to the internet, What happens if the student comes from a country closed to travellers from the USA? More camps? Deported to any other country? Not all learning can be done online. Some subjects require work in labs etc. Bit easy to just say "get another visa" when actually it is nigh impossible to get one under the present circumstances.

Rev, you and Brakes never saw a point you couldn't miss.

These pardons have been going on for decades. You seem to think it is something new. That's what happens when you view history through a telescope that only goes back three years.

The pardon stuff (including commutes) has always caused me heartburn on the surface. Yea most of it becaused of a presidents subjective non-legal judgement that the rap was unfair compared to the perp's peers. All presidents have done it and we the avg joe don't like the hints of subjectiveness that we don't oversee.

So when are we gonna change it? it certainly isn't going away with Trump, or do we simply put up with it as a sign that there is a God and final justice?

The US has always been a Mickey Mouse country. The ruling elite have been able to get away with pretty much anything they choose as the average American is too busy being distracted by sports and stories about politicians and prostitutes.

Look no further than the WMD lies under bush II or Iran Contra under Reagan.

Elliott Abrams is a great example, lied to the Senate about US assistance in the massacre of hundreds of civilians in El Salvador then lied to congress about the illegal supply of weapons to the Contraís in Nicaragua, a war crime for which the US has been charged with human rights violations by the ICJ.

What happened to Abrams? Pardoned by Bush II and is now the Special Representative for Venezuela where he is repeating the same behavior as before, lying for the US in order to manufacture a case in support of armed intervention in that country on behalf of big oil!

Is it any wonder the US is viewed as having zero credibility.

If those labs you mention are going on in the US then they are attending class which satisfies the requirements of the student Visa and are then welcome to stay.

Awww, truth hurts huh?

Fact of the matter is that under Trump* the US has lost credibility on the world stage. He/they have left allies standing and reneged on their agreements to the point where many countries have to be either waiting on a good result in November's election (ie, the appearance of some sanity in the White house) or planning to cut certain ties and move on without them. Given the instability of US politics the latter might be the best bet.

You'll find many in the US are quite fine with cutting ties RHT.
