Meanwhile, here are a few words from someone who knows what they are talking about. Warning: This interview was provided by the BBC, that house of liberal/establishment/Bolshevik/elitist/woke/whatever propaganda. If you stopped listening 40 years ago, please continue to be switched off.

Edward Colston statue replaced by sculpture of black protester.

I don't expect she will be the amazing philanthropist that Edward C was.................................

I personally think it makes her look tarty to be polite... it's just the way the sculpture has chosen to dress her, its odd really because the parts on news snippets showing her in front of it and talking about it she does not come across anything like that, nor dress like that.

Great news, the mayor has already said the illegal statue is coming down.

I'd suggest that this BLM militancy has alienated a lot of people from their 'cause'. I'm not really interested in the whole thing any more. If it was that bad here in the UK a few months ago, why weren't there demonstrations then? Explosive exploitation of the Floyd death, violent disorder and outrageous demands has left them with little credibility in my eyes. For what it's worth here on JB, I've never worked with - or met - a black person in Britain with any discrimination gripes. I'll accept that it happens sometimes, somewhere, but it's not a social pandemic.
There must black Pruners here - let's have your opinions!

It will kick off again at sentencing, then die a death again, sad to see those in Melbourne who marched are now dropping with Covid.

Nutty, the Melbourne march was just a "let's hop on the outrage bus and have a riot like they do in Murrica", with very little relevance to life in Oz.
They were warned that the march was illegal, but they did it anyway. Completely self-induced. Sorry, no sympathy.

golfbananajam; apparently your guide was incorrect......

Studies on modern Egyptian DNA support the view that neither Egyptian Muslims nor Copts are Arab. All the invasions that Egypt has experienced over millennia, including the Arab invasion, do not seem to account for more than 15% of modern Egyptians' ancestry.
Back on topic:
1. Put the new statue in the museum alongside the one it replaced
2: Draw up a list of alternative statues or sculptures
3: Ask the residents of Bristol, ie people who are actually registered with the Council via a postal poll to establish what statue they would like to see on the vacant plinth.

As a non-resident but occasional visitor, I'd vote for Isambard Kingdom Brunel of SS Great Western and Clifton Suspension Bridge (amongst many other achievements) fame.

Brunel already has a statue in Bristol, on Temple Back East not far from Temple Meads station.

The illegal Marxist statue has been removed this morning

A long overdue victory for the rule of law over the mob

Also imagine how many would be on the outrage bus if that statue was defaced or toppled?
Probably for the best.

It's going in a museum - absolutely fine with that

Well, it'll be safe there as the looney tunes fringe who would likely damage it probably don't frequent museums often.
I wonder how much it cost though? Surely the money could have been better spent on a project that actually helps the local community (black or white)?

Torquetalk - How refreshing to note that at least one other forum member bothers to educate themselves with something relevant to the matter being 'discussed'! That short item said more about the problem, and its continuing effects on a section of society, than anything I've heard or read elsewhere.
I'm afraid any hope of the majority of the 'opinionated' on this thread bothering to search it out and (just perhaps) use it to educate themselves, is as likely the police becoming even-handed!

Cornish Jack. How refreshing to see that you only appear to find something relevant if it's something that you agree with.

Probably best place for it, resin over steel, the first rains and corrosion setting in, she would have soon cracked up. I read they have been asked to collect it if wanted and a donation to the removal costs would be appreciated.

I sure it could have been if they were in any way inclined but many of the bandwagon groups that emerge only want a bit of publicity and never actually do much, if anything that can be useful to the community/country that they reside in.

747 jock - Ironically amusing, that your response could not be more indicative of, not only not listening to the referred-to item, but totally failing to understand the nature of it!! Not that it would either interest you or add to the quality of your observations, but the item was a rather humbling, partial biography of someone with a powerful story to relate - not something anyone could agree or disagree with - just a 12 minute history lesson ... but only for those who can be educated!

When the sculpture heard what it was for, one would imagine he jumped at the chance, probably at cost or below, what a way to get his work out there on the Worlds stage, you couldn’t pay for such advertising as that image will be shown throughout the Worlds press..
