Society For The Protection Of Apostrophes Closes...

A society dedicated to preserving the 'much abused' apostrophe is to be shut down as its chairman says 'ignorance and laziness' has won. John Richards, who worked in journalism for much of his career, started the Apostrophe Protection Society in 2001 after he retired

The Barbarians have won...or can we all relax now and say The Barbarian's have won? - and then spend the rest of the evening asking each other; "What did the Barbarian's have in their possession that they used to win?
wait, is that right, no, surely Barbarians'...

Anyway here are the Link's ...

This Thread was not started - after years of careful research in to this particular grammatical difficulty - purely for the purposes of using the apostrophe in a deliberately erroneous manner but, the society being closed down now, I suppose "free's us up" to do what the bloody hell we like with i't...
So I say pr00ne; fill you'r boot's - this is our chance lads' to do it absolutely wrong for a bit...

Thank's...

Has it come to a full stop or has it just fallen into a comma ?

There's a question mark over its' status.

Must dash...…….

So now maybe we should try to protect the catastrophe instead because now it's need is greater?

It's enough to make one want to emigrate to France or Italy, where the aforesaid punctuation is alive and well and in everyday use.

Ignorance is like the wave's of the sea. You can only surf on them, but never shoot them down and kill them, correct?

As long as the accusation "Grammar Nazi!" strikes fear into the heart's of those who know the truth, sealing their lip's and pen's, the lazy will continue to win.

Dear Mister Language Person: What is the purpose of the apostrophe?

A. The apostrophe is used mainly in hand-lettered small- business signs to alert the reader that an "S" is coming up at the end of a word, as in: WE DO NOT EXCEPT PERSONAL CHECK'S, or: NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ITEM'S. Another important grammar concept to bear in mind when creating hand-lettered small- business signs is that you should put quotation marks around random words for decoration, as in "TRY" OUR HOT DOG'S, or even TRY "OUR" HOT DOG'S.
