India Moon Mission.

Thats fantastic news! Clearly, if they can afford to do this, the country has solved all its poverty and begging and they don’t need anymore of our overseas aid.
What an amazing result. Unless, they’re planning on building more call centres on the Moon😳?

Aid to India
I’m all for a bit of outrage occasionally but please read the attached link.
https://dfidnews.blog.gov.uk/2018/12...an-government/
There is a big difference between aid to the Indian Government, which has already ceased, and investment in the Indian economy for the benefit of Britain.

The perpetual argument against scientific research and development, "But wouldn't they do better spending on infrastructure such as effective sewage systems and proper lavatories?" It sounds really good on the surface but it is a meaningless statement. If a nation is simply relegated to the status of assembler of parts or host of call centers then how can it ever be expected to have the resources to accomplish all of the infrastructure spending suggested when one is living off the scraps of the worlds economy? The USA invested heavily in research and development during the space race. The resulting inventions, refinements and knowledge gained catapulted them to the top of the research and development pile for the next several decades. Japan took research and development to a new high and dominated the worlds best electronics for a few decades as well. China has grown from agrarian society to economic super power by spending a lot of money on research and development. Today's economy is far less about what you assemble and far more about which and how many patents you hold.
An excellent example of this is an iPhone. There was a TED talk about the assembly of the iPhone. At the time of the presentation, something like 23 nations were making parts for the iPhone with the final assembly being made at FoxCon in China. The most money made was in Germany because they had the most technical parts of the phone, next was the US, the lowest amount of money made was in China because all they did was assemble it.
Research and Development, even if it's in a form you don't approve of such as a space program, produce economic spin offs that will allow them to fix the sewers and lavatories eventually by raising the populous out of poverty and bring the whole country into the first world. So, as we have just passed the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, a program that produced many commercial products used to this day, perhaps you should applaud the effort. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/sci...nventions.html

More than half of the projected £98 million will be invested in Indian enterprises, while the rest funds technical expertise.

Have you ever watched Dragon’s Den? I guess it’s a bit like that.
I’m not the expert. I was just pointing out that the idea that we are still giving actual foreign aid to India is a little outdated.

Good for them and I wish them all the best . Uk space programme is virtually nonexistent , a constant battle to get funding for anything meaningful , be it with NASA , ESA or even Russia . My question is, how come this farce of "international aid" still continues at the level it does . India still say they don't want it .

When/if this Brexit mess is sorted , maybe the lawmakers could think about cutting back on aid and funding more stuff back home , like a few more ships/planes for the navy/air force to do their jobs properly ( and I don't mean 100 million quid for another F35 ) .
Yes , I know , well aired rants already , but in view of recent events in the Gulf , some serious thinking is needed . Otherwise , stop talking about " Great Britain ".

The UK space program isn’t non existent.. it’s focused on stuff that makes money.
‘Not bouncing around On a dust ball . Much as I admire the moon landing and anyone who can use a slide rule,
when they started hitting golf balls around you knew it was pointless ..
build something useful like an anti gravity motor and it will get interesting again

But there are already more Glasgow-built satellites in orbit than from any other city in Europe.
Latest cube sats were launched on an Indian rocket .

If India can launch rockets, why not UK ? As someone said , there's money to be made here , and if UK plc is planning to distance itself from EU (ESA) , then hopefully BoJo will add this to his "can do" list to make "Britain great again"

If India can launch rockets, why not UK ?
Black Arrow carrying the Prospero satellite into orbit in 1971 made the UK the sixth nation to launch a satellite on it's own launcher. Britain also contributed Blue Streak to ELDO ....( My late father worked at a sub-sub-sub-contractor to both projects and I remember the running joke at the time was it was always the European bits of the ELDO launcher that failed, the British bit was always reliable.....timeless humour?? )
However somebody decided there was no more money for noisy smelly rockets and that more money could be made from building satellites so the UK left the launcher business. AFAIK the UK are still as wiki says "the only country to have successfully developed and then abandoned a satellite launch capability."

Wiggy,
Pretty sad really . Memories come to mind of Frank Whittle and his jet engine ; powers-that be were NFI so he took his design stateside and the rest ( as they say ) is history .
Meanwhile India, Japan , Brazil and others are going full steam ahead with launch capability .Wonder what they know that we don't .
On my Oz trips , I used to route occasionally over Woomera , and I often wondered what might have been....
