I ALWAYS thought we were the 51st State!!

Hmm...never expected this...I wonder where his 'inspiration' came from??

Dreadful news out of Darwin tonight (Darwin...that's the place that the 'right' sold off the control of a major port of Australia to a chinese company for a 99 year lease and the 'rights' minister who facilitated the sale is now in the employ of said company to the tune of $880 000K a year

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-06-...jured/11179136

https://www.news.com.au/national/nor...0507b3837882a7

23 YEARS one Month and 6 days since the Port Arthur Massacre....and Oz's last random massacre of random innocents with guns...either john howard got it wrong, for almost 1/4 a century or we should ALL be armed ALL the time?...... that doesn't seem like freedom though...

RIP to those unfortunates

Anyways...he likely obtained the gun illegally...so all good I suppose...

As usual, the suspect is known to police, and on parole.

Just flying back from England and hearing this news.

Apparenty a person known to police, wearing an ankle tracker while on bail, believed to be associated with motorcycle gangs and the killings appear targeted. Possibly a falling out of persons known to each other.

He was captured after calling the police and asking to be taken into protective custody. The story should be interesting if it ever gets to court.

While this is not a matter for levity, I did think that an early police description of a middle aged white Caucasian male, wearing a high-vis vest and driving a white Toyota twin cab Ute pointed the finger at a sizeable portion of the local community.

They now say he went to the motel looking for an individual but he happened to be interstate. Those killed were just random.

Canada is the 51st.
not a State, a wholly owned subsidiary.

Dont forget, guns are illegal in Australia...shouldnt one worry when every time they bust a bikie gang, they show the dozens of guns they found...here is a know criminal, with a tracker, yet has a pump shotgun...

Victoria Police seize more than 100 guns in raids of outlaw motorcycle gangs and members' properties

Bikie nation - the outlaw gangs in your backyard
Suburban Australia is under increasing risk of bikies and their appetite for drugs, violence and gun-running. And their numbers are on the rise.

Bikie gangs create havoc in every Australian state and territory and their turf-war shootings, methamphetamine in backyard "ice" labs and other illicit drug distribution are escalating.

The Australian Crime Commission has issued a warning that organised crime by outlaw motorcycle gangs is putting innocent Australians at growing risk of getting caught up in the crossfire of guns and drug crimes.

Nope, they're not illegal at all.

Most of the long arms shown in your post are illegal.
The Enfield No. IV at the bottom and the pistols are all potentially legal --- WITH THE APPROPRIATE LICENCE.

Sadly, the anti gun crowd are happy to lie because they don't like facts - such as you offer.
They like emotion.
It's an MO that crosses all borders.
The details of this case, tragic as it is, is to them simply a political springboard.

I'll see myself out.

What was the interval between the previous such incident, prior to Port Arthur?
That is, before the gun laws were tightened?

Getting hold of a shotgun wouldn't be too difficult in Darwin. Most farmers have one. Don't know what laws apply to possession of pump action varieties there though.

The NT police said the shooter appeared to be under the influence of ice (methamphetamine). Irrational behaviour is not unusual with ice-affected people. The guy he was supposedly looking for wasn't even in town. Poor research on his behalf. Plus the shooter had a history of violence.

Ice affected nutjobs going berserk with shotguns shooting random people is a terrifying scenario.

Pump action shotguns have been illegal since the late 90's, even in the Territory.

Gossip has it that the one used was reported stolen in 1997. Police are looking at who supplied it to him and also who obtained the ammunition.

Gossip also has it that he was seeking retribution against some people responsible for his last arrest and gaoling. In addition, he targetted his ex-girlfriend and was looking for the guy she took up with while he was inside.

To each their own.
Your point on the tough nut that is gang violence is a frustration shared in many places ...

This landing is part of a concerted United Nations plan for the liberation of Europe, made in conjunction with our great Russion allies.
Statement made by Eisenhower to the American people on D day.

Not referred to by any of the participants in the D day celebrations - wonder why - Well Russia is the bad boy now isn't it?

Millions of Russian soldiers gave their lives in the elimination of the Nazis.

The Russian War Memorial (Red Army War Memorial?) (on Unter Den Linden/Strasse 17 Juni) just down the street from the Brandenburg Gate was once referred to by some wag my dad knew as
"The tribute to German marksmanship." (Cold War era joke: snowflakes and millenials will fail to see the humor in that, no doubt)

The Memorial was IIRC erected to commemorate the Soviet Union's many war dead ...

Note to self: I need to find out if it's still standing.
(Aha, it's still there)
The German tabloid Bild launched a Bundestag-petition to remove the Soviet tanks from the memorial site as a response to the Crimean crisis in 2014, calling them a "martial war symbol". The petition was subsequently denied by the German federal government.
