A fruit juice a day brings the Grim Reaper your way...

Another day, another food scare.

Large glass of fruit juice a day increases risk of premature death, research suggests...

Oh well, better get my will written...

As long as ale does not appear on the list. I'm OK with that.

Don't eat or drink anything, at all.
You'll live forever.

One of my lady friends often says to me "a pint of cider doesn't count as one of your five a day..."

I do like a very large glass of orange juice with my dinner. And i do mean a large glass...

A glass of orange juice could contain the juice of 6 oranges, but you would struggle to eat 6 oranges in one go because the fibre and bulk of the fruit would fill you up.

However the juice on its own does not fill you up, so it is very easy to ingest too many calories without realising it. Sugar - including natural sugar - is basically 100% calories, so having orange juice (or any other sugary drink) with a meal probably doubles the calorie intake of that meal.

Quote correct, I have been saying for years that all food kills, the proof is that no one has yet survived food.

Don't suffer from heartburn but the info about sugar is interesting. I'm averaging about 7 miles a day walking at the moment but may be if I switched to water I'd start shifting some weight. And cut down on food/alcohol...

The whole 'glass of OJ to start the day' was pushed by lobbyists for the Florida Orange Growers Association back in the day, purely as a means to increase business. OJ has lot's of vitamin C, but the HUGE dose of fructose creates such an insulin response that it encourages the body to store fat and is said to suppress the immune system. An orange is very healthy to eat, but many squished into juice, however tasty, sadly aren't however tasty and refreshing.

A large glass of freshly juiced oranges on the sea front at Minorca are indeed tasty and refreshing. Unlike a large glass of fermented grapes they don't induce an afternoon nap either so on balance are as enjoyable but better during the day.

I always knew there was nothing innocent about those smoothies!

I visited a friend and was served a huge glass of orange juice for breakfast. Told him I didn't really like the stuff, I'd just stick to tea, and he couldn't believe me. "But everyone likes orange juice!" Actually I quite like a small grapefruit juice, but that seems to be going the way of marmalade in disappearing from the breakfast table.
