Back to school people, do the next "protest" on a weekend.
Perhaps they can make up for it by going to school on an inset day. Doing it on a school day highlighted the issue more.
Its remarkable how many young people are doing this today.
Theyve done more than us grumpy old keyboard protestors.
They clearly think this is an issue that affects them and their children and aren't affected by nimbyism, just idealism.

Take the Climate Challenge and see how much you/your kids really know about climate and it's impact.

They blockaded a nearby refinery this week, stopping all traffic. The refinery simply put in a temporary road bypassing them. I was told that if the tankers couldn't get out then the oil would have to be burnt, I wonder how much damage to the environment that would cause. The protesters drove away from the site, hopefully never to return.

In 1979 we laughed at Peter Sellers's portrayal of "Chance the Gardener" creating an assembly of credulous cultist followers in the film "Being There" . Forty years later "Greta the Gardener" manipulated by her anarchistic minders has ensnared a similar naive following, mostly bereft of any scientific training or discipline, who choose to bunk off school for a day "On Strike ". Is there anybody speaking out reasonably on behalf of the rest of society?

Keep on turning your back you dinosaurs, it's your children and your grandchildren who will suffer, and forever blame you...

London/Oxford/New York you claim so you are just one of the many hypocritical types who continue to travel all over the place.

thegypsy,

HOW do you know anything at all about my movements? Or my carbon footprint.

Methinks the Lady doth protest too much.

Indeed, one of those groups on the fringes of each and every protest and demonstration.

If they really want to save the planet, they should have a lottery to establish which one third of the males and one third of the females is sterilised each year until the world population has dropped to sustainable levels.

Just in the off chance that anyone wishes to view this as an indicator that forest firefighting is not becoming more difficult due to changes in fuel condition and fire weather extremes. In my professional life I am in regular and recent contact with senior wildfire/bushfire fire commanders in California, Chile, Victoria and New South Wales. Universally, they point to observed changes in fire behaviour and danger over the past decade *in addition to* there being more people and assets in risky places, and the accumulation of forest and grass fuels especially vegetation litter on forest floors. This change happens also to be well supported by data. On the fuel accumulation issue, the primary causes for these are (i) there not being sufficient proactive burning (i.e prescribed burns, burning off, ...) because the time windows of safe periods for these burns (in between dry enough to burn, and too dangerous) are getting smaller, and (ii) air quality concerns (espec. in CA and around Sydney).

Yes. They are filling a leadership vacuum that should not exist. It would be much better if mainstream political leaders fulfilled their responsibilities.

I do wish Ms Thunberg would go to China with her entourage and see how she gets on with protesting there!
