From today's Times,

The co-founder of Extinction Rebellion caused damage worth more than £7,000 by spray painting a listed university building in protest against the institution’s fossil fuel investments, a court was told yesterday.

Roger Hallam, 52, appeared at Southwark crown court alongside David Durant, 25, his co-defendant who is a fellow Extinction Rebellion member, after they targeted King’s College London in an attempt to force the university to remove £14 million of investments in fossil fuel companies.

I wonder if this bloke realised that he was spraying fossil fuel derived paint on the building, and releasing butane/propane propellant into the atmosphere whilst he did it?

Make them sit an energy science exam paper again and again until they pass it, then they must calculate the amount of GHG they produced in committing their crime, then they must pay for the repairs by getting a job.

Chalk based spray paint. Not only no fossil fuel organics, but also no volatile gases - and vegan as well.

Misguided they may be, stupid they’re not

It is still manufactured, packaged, transported etc which leaves a footprint, no matter how inconvenient to their actions.

It will make me part of their fight for the environment and help them to put a stop to the madness of burning fossile fuels. It will help their finances and it's a way to say thank you for their troubles when I cannot participate myself for lack of time... Some of my taxes go for funding many projects I do not agree to, so, this way, I have the choice. You pay soldiers to defend some "very often" wrong causes... well, I fund causes I think are much much more important.

If you want to donate money to a good cause, I suggest ER members redirect their finances to https://www.moltexenergy.com/news/de...positionId=118

Sorry, I forgot 'nuclear' is a trigger word to some, wiping out any willingness to examine recent advances in nuclear technology to solve the issues being raised. If you want to keep the lights on by 2025 you will need technology like this.

@Grayfly -"[COLOR=left=#000000]If you want to keep the lights on by 2025 you will need technology like this". If you are talking about lights on my farm, for your info, I will come completely "Off Grid" at the end of this summer when my antique wood working machinery will be retired and the 380V, 3 phases needed to power them will no longer be needed.....Private Solar and Wind power will take over and my van will be replaced by mule and cart, mainly to bring back vegetables from the garden and green house half a mile from home...... I had no idea you lived on a farm.

Sounds like a plan. Not a plan or option open to a lot of people.

I'll take my chances with new technologies, nuclear included and encourage the changes in our education system required to produce the bright people needed to solve the problems we now face.

I wouldn't get too indignant about the above.

For every cause, justified or otherwise, there's always a "celeb" willing to become prominent.......doing so helps keep their egos massaged and remain in the public eye.

Nothing quite like the threat of fading into obscurity for the species after all.

Anyone tried and succeeded with this particular challenge?

Just pick your choices and intensity of effort and see if you can win the prize without the downfall of the global economy.
