Just reading (in WIRED) about shops in China using facial recognition to identify customers and getting a profile from social media so that when the staff go to them they know all about them.
This sort of thing seems to happen quicker that we can imagine, the report goes on to detail some of the progress (?) being made in this profile sector.

The old fashioned ways still work, eg the Old School Tie. I walked into the RAF club last night, was approached by a guy holding the clipboard with my name on it, "you know where you're going sir?". 'Cos I was going to a school dinner and he recognised the tie, I reckon. I have seen other punters not so easily identifiable get a rather slower passage through security there.

From an efficiency POV it makes perfect sense, you know a superficial profile about the potential customer to better serve their needs. However, from a personal privacy POV it's a horrible violation, even if those social profiles were voluntarily given. It's heading towards.....

So put yourself on Farcebook with a joke name (Mike Hunt, Ivor Biggun etc) and see how often they shout your name out as you go into a shop.
