How many aircraft have you flown in - in your life time ??

Need to add one to my list - a tandem parachute from 15,000' yesterday. Well, it is some sort of aircraft, innit? The one I jumped out of was a Cessna Caravan. My landings are now one less than my takeoffs.

I do and have not only details written in two different 'log books,' but also a spreadsheet version plus I use "Flight Diary", now "my flightradar24." Having worked both on the ground and also as a Loadmaster I've kept details of every flight I've been on including pictures of a lot of them.

As a tyke I used to, and wish now that I had kept up the practice. Once had a passenger pass a notebook to the cockpit with the request to fill it out, a logbook for all intense purposes. It was interesting to leaf through it and find some long previously known identities and what they were now doing eg ex instructor I had who was 20 YO at the time I knew him now left seat in a 744.

Not my claim to fame, but a much-loved aviator who many of us now involved in aviation were inspired by was Ray Roberts (Ex RAF and ATA) when he was a civilian gliding instructor at 618 VGS at West Malling in the 70's and 80's. . At his funeral wake in Kent (he was 101) his daughter produced his log books (5) and here is his impressive list:

It strikes me that they gave aircraft much nicer names in those days. It is also quite noticeable that once he was on a squadron, his first flights in several types were as P1 with no P2 or passenger, ie read the manual, climb in, start up and go.

I had a count up and since 1962, when I first flew in a BEA Dart Herald, I have flown in 68 types and piloted 9, all gliders. I have flown in single, twin, tri and four jets and props, single and twin rotor helicopters and an airship.

I just had a count up, since my first flight in 1966 in a Channel A/W Viscount to last month in a CAP 10 I've flown in 108 different types. If you include sub types (B737-200, B737-300 etc) it comes to 126.

Kept a passenger log - my dad's logbook provided most of my pre-teen info, probably a few gaps tho where he was a passenger too, lost my Junior Jet Club log but I know when, who and what those five flights were, can guess the hours!). Most interesting types, Chippy, Pup, Cv440, Waco UPF-7, Stinson SM-8, Bell 47, DC-3, S-61N, floatplane J-3, Citabria, Rapide. Think there are just over 30 types all told.

Your Glasgow-Heathrow shuttle would most likely have been a Trident 1C or 3B or possibly a Boeing 757-236.
The jet sectors ex Dublin would most likely have been either a BAC One Eleven 200 or Boeing 737-200 I guess.

I whish I had been more diligent in recording the registrations of types I "paxed" in. However I do know that a couple of them are now in preservation.
