Should Kay Burley resign for her comments about Simon Weston?

“So what about, I don’t know, something like Simon Weston, who can’t necessarily show his facial expressions given what happened to him at the Falklands and he was so hideously burned?” she asked the MP.

“I’ve met Simon many times,”

“Yeah, so, I mean, would that… does that offend you?”

“…Not at all,” replied Bridgen.

“But he can’t show his facial expressions the way that you’ve just been illustrating, so just, just, just take that to its logical conclusion for me?”

“That is a ridiculous comparison,” Bridgen replied.

“[Weston] is a decorated war hero, who’s been terribly, terribly wounded in service of his country. I mean, who’s going to look at Simon Weston in anything other than absolute esteem?”
Those comments are reprehensibly offensive and are inappropriate for a British TV news presenter.

Until being stupid is made a crime, she will keep her job.

More people need to answer TV presenter questions with 'that's a stupid question being used for TV effect and I won't argue or debate with a stupid person'.

At the end of his famous interview with Robin Day after the Falklands War, in which Day had called him a "here today, gone tomorrow politician", Sir John Nott famously said " I'm sorry, I'm fed up with this interview. Really, it's ridiculous", unclipped his microphone and walked out. I'd like to see some of these interviewers get the same treatment.

Isn't that the organisation who's motto is "Don't be evil" but is helping the Chinese set up a search engine that the government can censor?

You mean like football manager Ian Holloway saying 'that's a bloody stupid question'.
I used to like Kay but some of the things she's said recently (since the last general election) are just plain imbecilic.

A bit of context would help. What were they debating?

Simon Weston had no choice and has worn his scars bravely.

Burley however, paid a plastic surgeon £10,000 to gain her sour visage.

Yes it is.
Back on topic about dealing with idiots with microphones: I think that former NFL coach Bill Parcells should set up a training course for people who will be dealing with the media a lot. He knew how to handle stupid questions. His protégé Belichek has a similar attitude, but isn't as effective beyond being terse.

Yeah, the signature "best rebuilt face money can by" tell tales are in her photos. I suppose that in an image based business, that's an investment in infrastructure.

"Seriously, who gives a shit what Simon Weston thinks about anything? If he knew anything, he'd still have his face".
Guardian columnist and Corbyn supporter, Richard Seymour, writing in 2015.

No. One needs to read the whole piece to see what Bridgen said that led to her line of questioning.

No she shouldn't resign. An apology to Mr Weston wouldn't be amiss though.

She shouldn't be given the opportunity to resign, she should be fired.

Presenters on TV and radio are frequently idiotic , asking stupid questions is one thing but they are often confronted with an interviewee who extends an answer to include what the enxt question on the list is-hey presto they carry on and ask it yesterday.

In appropriate greetings is another, a few years ago an familly of four were found murdured including two small children , coverage of the item pauses and presenter says now wer cans peak with the man in charge of the investigation Superintendent XXXXX
Interviewer in cheerful tones then says 'A very good evening Superintendent ' Do they ever think even for a moment what an interviewee might ahve seen or heard in the course of an awful day. To his credit the copper gave her a grumpy hello and said its not a very good evening for me and my team.

And as for remarks about Simon Weston just awful , awful, we do go over the top with the Heros bit in UK, but he is a man who has suffered grievous wounding and disfigurement but who has always conducted himself with great dignity something seems that is sadly lacking in the media

For me Simon Weston has always been the tangible link between those that survived and those that died on that dreadful day. To bear those scars and memories and still take an active part in life makes him a hero in my book. By comparison Burley is an inconsequential non-entity.

Simon Weston is a decorated war hero and an inspiration to us all after what he went through. He's easily worth ten of the likes of her.

Mr Weston is also an example of what modern plastic surgery can achieve, those of us who remember the Falklands war and what he looked like immediately afterwards, compared with today would have to agree.
