Oh well.........For me the non-stop back passing to the goalkeeper was England's undoing, instead of getting the ball up the field and having the chance of a goal. It was unbelievable how often this happened and the Croats almost got a few goals. For me, sad to say, the Croatian team were just too experienced and classy, and that consistency paid dividends for them. Shame for England, but perhaps this will be a starting point for a new era of players being proud to represent their country and playing as a team.

Good game.
And for those posters here who try to belittle anyone who watches football - get a life.

they did:England trained by the Marines

But ultimately skill does play a part, and although they put a huge effort in the Croatians just had a bit more. Fine margin to lose by 1 goal after 2 hours, and a better run than most expected.

Does any of this ball game make any significant difference to your career, your family, your children, your health, your problems, what you do tomorrow, or the next day? No, of course it doesn't. What does Southgate get paid? think about that. A "showbiz" spectactacle for sure but thats all it ever is... "showbiz" I feel sorry for the sad saps that pay money to follow it. Interestingly it does highlight one fact about "real" life and its this. You can have talent, you can have drive, but its all for nothing without luck. Something the successful often have a major problem admitting........just sayin! lol. Goodnight.

Your'e wrong of course. I bet you are a load pf laughs to live with.
Playing music or listening to it does none of the things mentioned in your post, do you decry that as well.
Enjoying any activity whether as participant or spectator adds something to your life. Man does not live by bread alone.

Save your sadness Private Jet,

This sad sap watched his team win the Premier League against all odds and my father, another sad sap, watched England win the world cup. I have his 1966 match ticket.

The sheer joy of being surrounded by so many happy people, mostly strangers, sharing the same joyous experience is a rarity in life. Such events make a massive difference to your life in that moment.

Unlikely. The expectation was low so the amount of alcohol on order probably only took them through to the first knock out round.

Dont worry - any feel-good factor after the brilliant world cup run will soon be submerged in waves of negativity from old miseries like Private Jet

I'm not a football fan but Ive been very impressed by the way the team have conducted themselves on and off the pitch. One interesting statistic, 11 out the squad of 23 are either black or of mixed race. Shows how far football, and society, have come since the bad old days of the 70s when black players routinely had bananas thrown at them on the pitch

Not as old or self righteous as you sunshine. I find your somewhat disingenuous style of debate slightly charming but unimpressive.

Private Jet asked "Does any of this ball game make any significant difference to what you do tomorrow,
or the next day No, of course it doesn't ? "

Totally the wrong answer PJ as it does make a major significant difference to well over at least a million
people who travel to watch their team playing an away fixture. They travel long distances at high cost even
during the dark wet Winter nights.

Yes...the stroll to the semi final.....

Unfortunate that match commentary is now just an endless stream of 'shitistics' ,courtesy of Clive Tyldesley

Well aren't you just a barrel of laughs?

Of course its just entertainment. I'm old enough to remember the cup runs we had in 1990 and 96, great memories. This last few weeks another generation got to experience the same again. I saw kids and adults alike in moments of joy and laughter, I got to hug my teenage daughter for the first time in god knows how long, followed last night by tears and saddness as the realisation that we were beaten hit home. They will be cherished memories, regardless of the result. Your sneering contempt will be lost in the electronic ether, their memories will remain til their deathbeds. I know which life I prefer, and I pity you your sad lonley existence if the best you can do is post pathetic comments here. Now who's the 'sad sap'?

PS. Ken Dodd made more people happy than you or I will ever meet, Think about that the next time you sneer and whinge and pour garbage over other people's joy.

PPS. ricardian thet made I laaarf. Bravo.
