Ruse? I mean fake news...

Immigration status

As a matter of interest.
As Ms Markle is a citizen of the USA, will she be subject to Immigration control the same as other visitors to the UK. Also will she be required to progress through the 5 year settlement process including taking the ‘Life in UK Test’ and the language tests as per other non EU citizens wishing to settle in the UK?

In the short term this is really going to be like a Big Fat Gypsy wedding. Lots of tacky yanks with their stories and dreadful dress sense. I will avoid all coverage like the plague.

Harry is a great bloke but he has just consigned the Royals to years of media misery.

I bet Beatrice and the other one are popping the corks tonight because they are well and truly off the hook.

Could be a bit like one of those Four Weddings and a Funeral gigs.

Harry could have had anyone.

As my dear departed best mate would have said 'she must be able to suck a golf ball through a garden hose'.

I take issue with the OP title use of the word "hitched".

he's only promised ... there's still hope for all the other girls.

Too bad our Washington Post doesn't take an interest over there, they would dig up all kinds of dirt in their past and pay for the details.

Or, she could just jump into the back of a lorry at Calais and claim asylum when it reaches the UK. It has worked for hundreds of thousands of others.

I thought the vetting procedure involved a Las Vegas billiard ball.

It's not only the immigration issues, but there will also be some pretty interesting tax issues. That's why there are record numbers of US expats giving up their US citizenship.
No doubt they've thought about that though........

I am really disappointed. Listening to PM there are still frequent references to the latest goings on in the Brexit business. I had high hopes that this engagement would wipe that off the news for a few days, but apparently not

There are no immigration issues. The "Life in the UK" test etc applies only to those wishing to take up British citizenship. EU citizens settling here need nothing, other than their passports. Even Johnny Foreigner from across the Atlantic doesn't need to take tests. They need to have "Granted leave to remain" stamped in their passport, alongside their entry visa.
But, how things change! Earlier in my life time, Harry would have got nowhere with this as his bint is:
Bloody foreigner
Roman Candle
A bit dark
Divorced
An "entertainer".

Markle could end up in a pretty interesting situation as regards the IRS.
Anything that she receives that would have been tax deductible on her 1040 had she paid for it herself must be declared as a benefit. This would include security, transport and regular free food as well as gifts and transportation.
Markle may find that her US tax affairs become extremely complicated. Her life will be made even more difficult when Joe Stalin, known as Lansman, plays the strings on puppet Jeremy. After the Marxist poll victory and once exchange control is reintroduced into Britain, Markle will be required to import all her US dollar savings, royalties and earnings into the UK.
She'd be far better off just staying as Harry's mistress and letting him marry a nice English roses and cream girl while he carries on philandering regardless. That too would avoid the difficult situation of his marrying a divorcee who of course immediately upon such a marriage becomes a bigamist.
But look you, the British are lined up anyway for a bigamist as a queen once Camilla comes into the crown and of course, the roses and cream tradition is long accepted in Britain as it was when Harry's father married Harry's mother, giving rise to the newspaper headline: Big Ears marries Noddy.

Good for the young come and their families, but honestly many of you are losing that Brit reserve over a clue of kids getting hitched.
