I also got one of those recently.. no explanation but I suspect it was a comment I made out of sheer frustration at the poor educational standards of some posters.

I think that sometimes it's pretty random. I've been blocked for well over a year from a thread that I barely contributed to, and what I had posted wasn't contentious. The odd thing was the thread ban was days after my last post, IIRC.

I think that sometimes the mods are just very busy dealing with a fair number of contentious posts, and some get thread bans almost by accident. It's the only conclusion I've been able to reach, given the apparent randomness of some of them.

Best thing is just to accept that it happens, the mods are doing a tough job on a very busy forum, they are all volunteers, and they have no time to spend debating details with every person that posts.

In general, I think the moderators here do a bloody good job under what are clearly difficult conditions at times. R&N, in particular, seems to be a real challenge to keep under control, from what I've read on there.

A friend of mine was given a life time away from twisted plums on that cabin crew site by a previous moderator for posting something that was, in the eye of all who have subsequently read it, a completely appropriate and proportionate post. To this very day he has no clue as to the reason for his ostracisation and laments deeply his lifetime punishment the imposition of which is beyond his ken.
When you are told to leave the court of the Star Chamber and told that you may not present yourself again, for whatever period of time, you have been banned and to say otherwise is to dissemble.

It happened to me but fortunately I could contact a moderator in the private forum who found out who sent me to the sin bin and that enabled me to send a message to get the 'time away' lifted. It has happened a couple of times since but there has always been a time period specified, a few days or a week. I too couldn't work out what had been wrong.

You have been banned for the following reason:
Missing your valuable input already

Date the ban will be lifted: Never.

Uninformed and into the wilderness went my poor friend whose only crime was to, well, he doesn't know of course.

Moderation is important.
What we say is not what some people hear, some may hear something other than what we intend to say and take offence where none was intended. Some only hear what their filters allow. Those types prefer echo chambers and usually are incapable of debate and are quick to insult. Those who are easily offended usually suffer from hypoxic damage ,caused by the habit of long term auto-erotic strangulation. Vain attempts to get those feelings first felt during their initiation to the mile high club. Like a junkie trying to get back that first high .
Those feigning being offended they attempt to some seek validation in their damaged underachieving existence . They usually also will seek some form of monetary compensation from those who have dared speak the truth.
"Fear none but God,
Speak the Truth even if it leads to your death " might be from an old oath of the Templars but is never practiced since their demise on Friday the 13th.
Moderation seeks to protect us from ourselves

I'm sure I can recall being banned from a thread that I had not actually posted to.
Not surprisingly it did not affect/bother me and I cannot remember what it was about as I wasn't really very interested in looking at it in the first place...

Likewise, Fareastdriver. I'm still doing time away from the Scottish Indy thread since early January, 2015. At least I was there and able to celebrate the 18th September 2014! Also, I've noticed that the pro-SNP posters have all since evaporated, their motive for being here in the first place was solely political. After their mission had failed, they simply abandoned PPRuNe.

I didn't really regard myself as a true PPRuNer until I had received my first ban (can't for the life of me remember what it was about).

From time to time I try a mildly amusing post on R & N which invariably disappears after a day or so. I don't think they like the "nav" bit of my name!

Being a moderator here must be like playing 'wack a mole', so have to cut them appropriate level of slack !

I am also doing time, didn`t know what my offence was, so I asked and got no reply. If a ban is to serve some sort of purpose, surely would it not be a good idea to inform the offender so that something is learned about conduct and rules.
It looks like I am also a lifer on that particular forum. Could we have a forum exclusively just to ourselves, called "Lifers". We could discuss in secret our escape plans, help each other with our open university degrees and get tips on how to smuggle out our posts to the good guys out there in other forums.

These bans can become a joke: when 'some time away from this discussion' becomes never-ending then it is nowt else than a ban!!

I too was banned from the Scottish Independence thread (and I will emphasise that a never-ending 'time away' is a de facto ban). I then decided that a new thread was needed as 'independence' was dead and gone with the only pro-independence party having a significant decline in seats in Parliament, so I started a Scottish Politics thread with this post: http://www.pprune.org/jet-blast/5418...ml#post9799078. Some mod decided that this thread should be merged with the Independence thread and my post that I have just quoted appeared on a thread that I am banned from!! What a joke! (Methinks that the mod involved is a closet ScotNat and wants to keep the 'independence' myth alive!! We couldn't possibly have a discussion about Scottish Politics without an 'independence bias' to it could we??!)

I agree with Tankertrashnav that one is not a true PPRuNer until you have been banned from something. Does the number of bans elevate your status?

How long before I am banned from this thread? I will be checking it frequently now out of curiosity! (How about everyone who has posted here having a weekly "I'm still here" post to 'keep score'?!!)
