So this is ONE place, out of VERY FEW, where you cannot bring kids. ONE place where playing and squeaking is not welcome.

You know what, for people who actually look for exactly such a place, there is almost nothing to be found. Kids are everywhere, people squawking away on their phones are everywhere, hectic 8 year olds running back and forth in train compartments on end and jumping on their seats with boots on - people cranking up spotify or game of thrones without headphones - everywhere. Is is definitely NOT the ahem - "self expressing bunch" that is being discriminated against. Quite the opposite, people who would like a reliably quiet little Oasis every now and then usually have zero to choose from. I admit I am one of them and if any part here is being "discriminated", then itīs me/us! For our perfectly legitimate wish for serenity is being ridiculed.

Last time I went to a spa, a place advertising with relaxing and mindfulness, two elderly ladies brought three grandchildren(?) to the sauna area, kids running about, opening and closing sauna doors by the minute and splash diving in the relax basin. Why? And what is so terrible about teaching children the difference between a spa, a nice dinner out, or a theatre show and their playground?

I applaude the VERY FEW no-kids businesses. The screaminīpant-poopers have all the rest of the world to yell and jump at anyway.
Spot on. Gertrude, Like many modern parents, you need to learn the difference between a Restaurant and a community cresh and that your child and their behaviour is YOUR responsibility

Once stayed in an outback BnB in Portugal which also had a restaurant, sat down at our candle lit table and in came some locals with two kids. They ran all over the place for about ten minutes until one of them met a solid pine table!! Game over.

It's not a kids issue per se. It's a 'brats' issue.

Brat kids and even worse brat parents. They are inexorably found together.

I'm for a ban of both.

Worst experience I've had was at a fairly up market restaurant in the Middle East, two tables, about twenty Lebanese, 9-10 o'clock at night, five or six kids, no attempt at parental control whatsoever. It is a Middle Eastern thing as well.

If we just banned children full stop, a lot of problems would be gone in about 100 years.
