The Privitisation of Rumours and News...

For many years, I relied on this for education.

And I can understand the few remaining real pilots wanting to eliminate "ground clutter" posted by self-loathing freight.

But I think making it private so only the chosen few can view is a mistake, because it keeps the rest of us from being able to read and learn.

Obviously, a list was generated. Obviously, this bulletin board software can support viewing without posting.

Rather than pester the mods, I've decided to just post here.

The only truly valid reason I can see is that this also blocks journos from being able to read insider posts.

If anyone else feels the same, jot a note here.

For many of us, the Rumours & News forum now shows the "private" banner, just like the airline specific forums.

You prolly don't fall into that category, but I do.

Log out and see what you get.

I am not a pilot, professional or otherwise. But I have worked in aviation since I was 18 until I 'retired' at 55. I worked for a now-defunk airline, and for a number of industry organisations. Etc.

I don't post often there, but when I do, I try and avoid speculating on things I am not familiar with. I have posted information that, while in the public domain, does not appear to be otherwise available to the PPs of PPRuNe. For example from NavCan 's daily reports, or indusrty information on the laptop ban thread.

I admit on that last thread I did enter into offering my opinions, but I didn't believe that thread was a PP thread, as the subject was of interest to all and the technical expertise not limited to people in the ultimate pointy bit.

If access to reading and posting are limited to actual PPs I would certainly miss it, as I have learned an incredable amount from professional pilots posting there.

Perhaps if the PPs don't want to share their R&Ns thread with the great unwashed, they could be given their own forum, but I believe that PPRuNe needs a R&Ns open to all to read and to post.

Nor me, and the Post Reply seems to be available in the unlikely event that I wished to post.

I haven't posted in R&N for years, but nothing has changed for me.

Nothing new. If you offend the mods, you get blocked from their forum.

I only post there on the rare occasions when I have something useful to add to the pool of knowledge. It's not the place for personal opinions of any sort.

When did it change to private even for PPRuNe members?

Can we confirm that new general memberships can initially log in and post a question there?

If so it's only those that have dirty feet that are blocked from posting

Yup, but it's the first three that I cared about

Edited out

I have had a few posts edited out. They were not completely germane, though, so oh well.
