Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to hospital as a "precautionary measure" as the result of an infection from a pre-existing condition..

He was at Ascot yesterday and was supposed to be with the Queen today at the State Opening of Parliament and then Ascot again. With the heat over the last few days and his illness earlier this year - and the fact he is 96 - there must be concerns.

Dumela Ra.

We do.

Now kindly keep your nasty comments down your Kalahari rat hole.

I join Planemike with his sentiments.

Rather more people than would care about you, if your remark is a reflection of your character.

I'll launch that straight back at you, do you seriously think those inbred anachronistic hateful parasites really care about any of us? If you do, you're naive at best. After all you're talking about the guy who is on record as saying when he dies he'd like to come back as a disease to wipe out most the world population. Lovely bloke.

Read up on Savile's involvement with the Royal Family. Will tell you all you need to know. No I won't be shedding a tear when any of this lot cark it.

Rex..... What you have written is disgrace. We are talking about a 96 year old human being.

Again I wish the Duke, his wife and all the family well. Trust he is receiving excellent medial treatment.

People are allowed to express an alternate opinion, regardless of his age that quote I attributed to Philip is not made up, it is all too real and available via a simple google search. In fact I got it wrong, he wants to be a virus with the same end result of culling the world population.

There's a lot more to your precious royal family than meets the eye and I find it amazing/worrying that any critique of them is met by some with such fierce opposition as if it were a member of your own family getting flamed.

Didn't realise we lived in communist China with all the censorship.

You might try explaining that to the police officers who arrested the Facebook user "Richard Gear Evans" yesterday, for making remarks that are less hate-filled than those you have just made.

Any scraping noises you hear will just be Rex grinding his axe. He can't resist an opportunity to have a pop at the Royal Family, particularly if he can bring Jimmy Savile into it as well.

I was tempted to check on that quotation. Within the context it was said, it seems entirely reasonable.
Prince Philip, in his Foreward to If I Were an Animal; United Kingdom, Robin Clark Ltd., 1986.

I just wonder what it would be like to be reincarnated in an animal whose species had been so reduced in numbers than it was in danger of extinction. What would be its feelings toward the human species whose population explosion had denied it somewhere to exist.... I must confess that I am tempted to ask for reincarnation as a particularly deadly virus.

Ignore all the hysteria over Jimmy Saville. I can't claim ever to have been a fan of his - but there isn't a scrap of evidence against him.

I can't get excited about a rich ancient Bubble being ill. Nor his German wife. However, I do think we ought to be civil about it, and hope that he gets well soon.

I suspect he is receiving the very best medical treatment, and much better than any you and I could expect if we rolled up at A&E in a "yellow taxi" (ambulance) and had to wait whilst an overstretch department; overstretched by people using A&E for hat it was not intended; are seen to.

Like every other civil human being I wish him well; and feel sure that his wife would, given the choice far rather be visiting him in hospital than delivering a speech, given in her name, but over which she had no say; then going to Royal Ascot without him, in 34 deg of heat.

If you've nothing nice to say, say nothing.

It's pity you started with that, AO. The sentiment in the third sentence would have sufficed. Don't forget the more recent Danish and Scottish blood in HM.

Seems to be a recurring bladder infection, had not passed a full flow of urine since early evening yesterday. Don't ask how this info came to me. He'll be back to himself in a few days.

In 1988 he went a bit further...

"In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, to contribute something to solving overpopulation "

'I am rude but it's fun': Prince Philip in his own words
