On the subject of soft fruit, Iíve just spent the afternoon making an industrial quantity of mango chutney. Itís years since I did it, I hope I can still hack it, it used to be epic.

Down here in this southern colony, strawberries always seem to be available.

With the variations in price, some parts of the year, they must be flying them in from somewhere foreign.

Strawberries feature in one of my life's happy memory moments.

When our son was a toddler, we lived in Tadcaster, and there was a strawberry 'farm' about halfway to York. They used to have these 'pick your own' do's.

We partook of this, and it included giving our son his 1st fresh picked berry to eat. He was very suspicious, and took much persuading to eat it.

When he eventually did, the change of his expression, from suspicion to pleasure, was beautiful.

I guess that supplies will dry up soon, or get too expensive for me to consider. - G-CPTN

Probably just as well or you could end up with a nasty case of kidney gravel due to an excess intake of calcium oxalate....

Thank you for pointing out that it's FRIDAY,handsfree.

I find your football crystal ball gazing most amusing Nigel.
Thanks for the assistance in buying the only half decent player that Wolfsberg had.

Morning all. I agree that Strawberries have been excellent this year, and I am not normally a big fan of them. I discovered that, like tomatoes, figs and blackberries, they are at their very best when picked in afternoon sunshine and eaten immediately.

Today I think an old Christmas song needs to be brought up to date and I propose:

"45 new Lords a-leaping with joy and claiming expenses for not turning up".

It does not scan or rhyme particular well, but you cannot have everything.

Straw and raspberries are still in season here in Vikingland and we have some every evening. Wifey enjoy them neat, me with cream and demerara sugar.
Imports, not so much.

At the moment, I am mainly eating mirabelles (and muscat and other fancy grapes). It's definitely the start of autumn here.

Picked nearly the last of the tomatoes in the garden this morning, for an impromptu tomato, mozzarella, basil, olive (and maybe a rogue peach) salad for lunch.

Set fair for the weekend - final swims in the lake for the kids and a hike on the Saleve is the plan. Eeking out the last bits of summer.

Need a few rainy weekends so I can knuckle down to clearing out the crap in the basement!

G-CPTN- Bryn & Dilys went for their walk over the moors with the dog walker and her little son this morning. Bryn had a great time being fed blackberries picked straight from the bush by the little boy.
Nigel - watch it!

Grey and rainy here, not what was expected!! Will hopefully improve within the next two hours as barbie planned for tonight.

Almost no strawberries to be had anymore hereabouts. I blame it on the British who seem to be consuming them all.

You can't go round here attacking tin-tent owners Nigel.

Goodness knows there are enough of them. If the majority of them report your post, it could be viewed as offensive and you could get tin-binned.
