Here again we see that classical method used against mobsters, the law working its way up the food chain from the small fry to the big fish. Stone is a big fish because there are not many layers between him and Donald Trump. About the only layer there is the Trump campaign, in fact.
Fair cop

I've had some similar really close calls when one of my co-workers was arrested for wife-beating

Well, Donald's shutting down of the government is beginning to show some more obvious negative effect with La Guardia having to close to incoming flights dur to a shortage of controllers:

If you fly regularly if that neck of the woods, ground holds, delays are nothing new. A simple one hour flight can end up being two or more in normal times.
But that’s never ever been a “newsworthy” story.

Oh well.

Ah! I knew a reference to The Godfather would be nestled in there somewhere. Sure enough, in the indictment against Stone:

“Stone told Person 2 that Person 2 should do a ‘Frank Pentangeli’ before [the committee] in order to avoid contradicting Stone’s testimony,” the indictment charges, adding: “Frank Pentangeli is a character in the film The Godfather: Part II, which both Stone and Person 2 had discussed, who testifies before a congressional committee and in that testimony claims not to know critical information that he does in fact know.”

Looks as if Manafort might get another 10 years added onto his sentence for lying to the Special Counsel. I wonder if Stone will be playing the tough guy if, and that is of course a big "if," he ever has to start spending his days and nights in prison. I would imagine that deep down he has to be at least a little concerned when he has an opponent like Mueller tracking him down. That bravado melts away quickly when you are looking at ten years of incarceration. Stone, a man who has prided himself on a career of dishonesty yet seemingly a hero to millions of Americans. How is that?

Oooo - Ann Coulter gets the knife out on the (temporary) end of the Gov't shut-down.

Good news for George Herbert Walker Bush. As of today he is no longer the biggest wimp to serve as President of the United States.
Rush Limbaugh still MIA, for the moment.

My, how the worms do turn...

Great logic. Like when the child of a single-parent TSA worker dies because of the Trump shutdown as she can no longer buy the insulin she needs to stay alive, that's never been a newsworthy story either. After all, kids die every die from diabetes.

Stop Press. A 78-year old Grandmother ended the Government shutdown today after removing the shriveled remains of what once had been testicles from a geriatric elderly man with mental issues and a persecution complex. The man later had a psychiatric episode on the White House lawn.

Has Trump tweeted anything yet? Any admission how he has just been publicly, and oh so very predictably, emasculated by a women who actually knows, and is interested in, how your government works?

Trump gasping and gulping for breath while Ms. Pelosi announces there is a new sheriff in town. Brilliant theatre. Sorry to see so many innocents get caught in the crossfire. Inexcusable really...

Sounds like you really believe that it is over when the soprano sings.

There are still acts to follow.

It's really not all about a government shutdown. It is however about the separation of powers between the branches of government. We, the people, just don't like having to bear the burden and get trampled upon to support one side or the other..

Where delays are commonplace what is your tantrum for?

Simple statement.

Is that Tony Soprano to whom you are referring?

I don't know. As an outsider peering in, it all seems rather tawdry and distasteful. Trump appears to have gathered together as advisors and staff the greatest group of grifters one could find.

Lots of important things on the plate for the U.S. and its allies. Would be nice to see those tackled for a change.

Hell, they haven't even pried the fat lady out of her car yet, a couple of blocks down, around the corner.

There is no giving up in this show, just waiting for the next other shoe to drop, announcing a new little frenzy.

Contemplation of possible prison time, country club or other, has to be somewhat more un-nerving if you have a large smiling Nixon head tattoo right between your shoulder blades.

Someone must have guided the Trumpster through the senerio that was unfolding with the ATCs not showing up to work for no pay. The next step would have been the airlines deciding not to fly at all for safety reasons. So then when there are no airline flights in the US, the country shuts down.

The "wall" was nothing more than a one word cue for Trump to remember to talk about immigration during the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump converted it to a war cry for his faithful believers. The reality is the "wall" has been nothing more than a deflection from the Russian investigation a Mafia technique Roy Cohen taught Trump when he was Trump's lawyer while representing two NYC Mafia families at the same time.

It's no surprise Trump got himself boxed in Washington DC. Same thing happened in NYC in a deal with the Mafia. It only cost him an extra $100 million for his beloved Trump Tower and a couple of other smaller Trump buildings in NYC, money Trump didn't have at the time and had to borrow. Strange this isn't in his Art of The Deal book.

BTW, The NY Times has an article running where Trump and his associates had more than 100 contacts with Russians before the inauguration some involving Trump himself and the others involving at least 17 campaign officials and advisors. Trump has continuously denied this ever happened.

Whoopee. All you've got is a three week reprieve unfortunately.
And bewildered millionaires and billionaires wondering out loud in interviews why government workers have had to use food banks.
Hell of a Christmas it was for all those affected and worse for their usually hard pressed January. And the future is nothing but uncertain - $ wise.

Wonder if ATCers fully realize just how strong a bargaining chip they hold if used skillfully?
Their head folks should be having some serious discussions among themselves. You know....for the next time.
"We Work if You Work" could be a slogan.
trump knows slogans.

If you workd for a federal agency that is/was shut down, you don't get scheduled payments from your own self funded retirement account.

If you expect payments from your retirement fund and they don't show up, it puts a real dent on your spending plans.

Federal employees typically need permission from their supervisors to take on other jobs.

Since the supervisors are on furlough, they cannot approve their staff taking on outside work.

Consequently, federal employees who get outside jobs to pay the rent or mortgage or pass the time could be subject to rebuke when they return to work.

This probably won't happen, but it could, especially if they take a job that remotely utilizes the skills they employ as a government employee.

All political regimes gather "...the greatest group of grifters one could find.". It's absurd to pretend otherwise. And we are the grifters' marks.

Unfortunately, their misdeeds are not small scale as the term grifter denotes.

Trump is a choirboy compared to Clinton, Inc. We're damned lucky that ghastly, corrupt, psycho woman and her band of myrmidons aren't ensconced in the White House.

Trump may surprise us; it's possible with probability being a separate issue.

Hillary et al have provided several decades of evidence of how Clinton, Inc. operates. She HAD to be kept out of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Trump sure wasn't my first choice but the primary election cycle (and the electorate) didn't leave us any rational choices. We were left with a Green Party Commie, a pothead Libertarian, Trump and that woman.

We had to pick the least ugly puppy from an ugly litter. We were saved by the Electoral College process in a way that's only happened a handful of times over the history of the republic.

I'm afraid it's a temporary reprieve.

Some of the Trump team may be grifters, but some of them should be residing in the big house.

Elliott Abrams has just been appointed as special envoy to Venezuela to help with the coup America has been working on down there.

It beggars belief that crooks like this keep floating to the top of the toilet bowl.

Just give it a thought, how many coups has America been involved with, in ways large and small over the years.
A considerable number, and not to defend the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania, but not very many start there, it’s usually the folks over at Foggy Bottom that present options up the chain along with names they would like to be involved.
The filing cabinet labeled future actions is large and full of options, as are the ones in most countries around the world.
