Getting really sick of this "first nation" propaganda thing, although the Australians may be an exception.
Here the term is used badly to try to influence their political and social agendas and to perpetuate never ending guilt trips and keep the cash flowing in.
I use the term "prior immigrants" if I have to use anything other than people.

Here in Arizona they are "Indians". Says so on their own signage.

I do trust you know your smugness re the HOR can be short lived and is very reactionary yet predictable. Please recall the Republican majority in the Senate INCREASED?

Not all that long ago (in the days after Obama’s first election win) that the talking head libs were predicting the end days for the conservative movement in the US. You making the same prediction?
Gloating? Nope. Haven't even mentioned it over the past 2 months. I really was just noting the effect on your expressed hopes and dreams, and commiserating (not a lot of surfing in AZ anyway).

I do have a little note on the wall reading 59 million - 50 million, but mostly for personal consumption. I don't plan to mention it again, unless anyone starts making cute claims about what the "American People" want.

To the extent that "reactionary" (réactionnaire) stems from the overthrow of Robespierre's Reign of Terror and the restoration of small-r Republicanism in France, I guess I'd side with the réactionnaires. Not sure how it applies to current events - unless one equates Trump to the Reign of Terror (I'll have to give that some thought).

My prediction for last Nov. was a 35-seat gain for the Dems in the House and a 5-seat gain for the GOP in the Senate. Since I blew that one, I'm not making any more.

More seriously - no, of course the Conservative movement isn't about to end. I think Trump may have put additional cracks in Reagan's Grand Coalition, although that's nothing new (remember Goldwater's comment that "Any good Christian should kick Jerry Falwell right in the nuts!"). I think demographics (more urban, less white) may require some serious soul-searching about exactly which alliances and policies actually result on net gains with the electorate (and the Donor Class).

Have you and Chuks been been drinking the same rock gut?

Reactionary in that short term politics shapes the vote. As far as Arizona, go outside city limits of PHX and you’ll find folks with similar beliefs.

Rock gut?

Try "rotgut," WC. Actually, I get high on the real thing: powerful gasoline, a clean windshield, and a shoeshine. Oh, and on Elizabeth Warren's claim to first nationhood or whatever it is called nowadays. I can see that saucy squaw cruising straight into the White House on that one. She'll have my vote. Twice, even!

Eddie, bubbelah ... stuff just goes straight over your head, doesn't it? Believe it or not, some Yanks really do get Austria mixed up with Australia, so that you can find little signs in the souvenir shops in Austria reading "No Kangaroos in Austria." Following on from that, Trump could definitely throw a wobbly once he finds out that Australia has not been paying its dues to Nato. And before you start again, yes, I understand that Nato members do not, as Trump seems to think they must, pay dues for membership in Nato; Nato is not like one of his golf clubs.

(Eddie has a problem: A drongo just ran his ute over Eddie's didgeridoo, out there by the billabong.) Yeah, well, if we are going to have a pity party, Eddie, I am a liberal lesbian trapped in the body of a conservative white man. See if you can top that one.

Vote in Chicago and you can vote to make her Chief. You better hope her staff is vigilant on keeping mosquitoes away from her. One stab from a skeeter and she’s back to being as white as you and me.

Regarding rock gut, climb down off your holier than thou perch and accept that the language hasn’t been static since you got slanged up in the 60s.

A useful idiot or on purpose?

Waking up and taking a look at some of the Yank newspapers, I see they are chock-o-block with reports of Mr. Trump's destroying of records after meeting with Putin.

Ok. Like the guy or not and ignoring the pin head dance around the meaing of "collusion," it seems there is just so much evidence that this man has been the perfect useful idiot for the Russians. Just how obvious does it need to get that this man constantly has to shift his pantaloons so as to mask his erotic excitement for Vlad and his posse?

Sure, not treason, sedition, colussion, or anything else. But reading some of the press it is clear that this gent really digs being played like a cheap fiddle. Isn't there a single republican to whom this is even the slightest suspicious? Sort of like Lot bargaining with God...if there is just one republican!

In the meantime, let's hope that Mr. Bolton doesn't convinve Trump to start a strike on Iran which seems to be the other above the fold issue.

Poppycock!

Come on, WC! You are pushing some sort of neologism there, trying to get us to buy your "rock gut" in place of the much more common "rotgut," simply meaning "cheap booze." "Rock gut," according to your own source, reads much more like a condition that stems from drinking cheap beer. What you were joking about us drinking is "rotgut," however. This is like "could of" instead of "could have," going for something that sounds somewhat similar to what is correct. "I could of been a contender," might be how it sounded, but what Terry meant was "I could have been a contender."

No such thing as getting it wrong in the Age of Trump, is there? (Check out the way yer man fumbles a word and then says " ... and [correct word]," instead of "Excuse me, I meant to say [correct word]." Next, he's going to walk out the door minus his pants, setting a new fashion trend for Republicans.)

Nothing like the scorn of a slang nazi caught not knowing it all. Most folks would simply move on, instead you double down. A little something you learned from Trump?

What you want? Lightning, or just lightning bug?

WC, stop and think about this for just a moment. (Failure to do these things is how you ended up on the wrong side of history here in the first place, no?)

Rotgut is a portmanteau word formed of a verb and and a noun; it's a beverage that is going to rot your gut: bad whiskey.

Rock gut ... two nouns, I suppose, meaning what? You end up with a gut like a rock, a swollen belly from drinking cheap beer? (It's not going to be the verb, "to rock," is it?) So this cheap beer is named for its after-effect, because it gives you a gut like a rock. Where is the verb? Gone missing in action, I suppose.

Rotgut is a good old Americanism from about 1800, like popskull, 40-rod, firewater, moonshine, corn, white lightning, snakebite remedy if you are not into that brevity thing ... but not rock gut! There you were Trumping out on us again, WC, going all hunky-keen or peachy-dory. Remember what Mark Twain taught us about the right word compared to its first cousin, that there is the difference between the lightning and the lightning bug.

Far be it from me, WC, to attempt to teach you and the Donald the errors of your ways. In fact, I would not be a bit surprised to find out that it's simply that your GRU handlers fixed both of you up with the wrong phrase book on "How to speak like American."

I can see it now, John Wayne sidling up to the bar, whacking some trail dust off his chaparejos and saying, "Howdy, Pard. Gimme a shot of that there rock gut."

"Hit the trail, you sheep-herdin', Commie-sympathizin', four-flushin', phony son-of-a-bitch! 'Rock gut .... ' Well, I never! Boys, throw this bum out! He must be some kind of god-damn Meskin, talkin' like that!"

Time to move on given you clearly have issues being corrected.

I suspect it's a generational issue, older vs younger. Law of primacy in play as well, first learned, best remembered.

Make mine an ogogoro, shaken, not stirred ....

Yes, yes, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was spotted eating a grape in the fruit section of Whole Foods, when there were no grapes in her basket at check-out. Obviously some sort of criminal low-life ....

Now, WC, tell us how many meetings she has had with the Russians, if you please.

Eh bien, no glossing over DJT's little exchange with Janine Pirro at the weekend!

For a moment I thought I was back in my childhood with Dick Tracy and the villains - "Eat lead, ya dirty cops!"
All we needed was the Plenty family yelling "BUILD THAT WALL!"

Mac (with a tip of the hat to the later, great Chester Gould)
