regarding the corruption probe in Albany
Daniel C. Oliverio, Ciminelli’s lawyer, denied the charges and said, “I wish everyone would withhold their judgment until we’re done in this case.”
He would say that, wouldn't he.
Got a link, or did it come from thingsIjustmakeup.com?
Just out of curiosity, what's your stake in this? You're from Oz, not New York.

@SASless: I am not sure I follow the link to Hillary from the NY Post article. What did I miss? The implication is that Gov Cuomo may be the next fish in the federal net:

When asked if he was willing to give Cuomo, who was not charged, a “clean bill of health,” Bharara did no such thing. “There is no allegation of wrongdoing or misconduct by the governor anywhere in this complaint. That’s all I’m going to say,” Bharara said.
Bharara — who already has won corruption convictions against former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and former Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos since Cuomo disbanded the Moreland Commission on corruption at the state Capitol — also declined to say if investigators had interviewed the governor as part of the continuing probe.
“I will tell you, I really do hope there’s a trial in this case so all New Yorkers can see in gory detail what their state government has been up to,” Bharara said.
Cuomo’s name does crop up repeatedly in the complaint.

Speaking of ladies in high office, I find these two cabinet choices interesting:

World - BBC News

Trump picks Nikki Haley and Betsy DeVos as first women for cabinet - BBC
  1. Nikki Haley for UN Ambassador. Grooming her for Sec State in a few years? I like the call.
  2. Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary: IIRC, she's related to Rich DeVos (the co founder of Amway). I checked, yeah, she's from Michigan. Amway is based out of Grand Rapids. Her short bio describes her as an education activist. OK, I'll look into that a bit more.

I dunno where you got that one, Hempy, but when I've heard Haley speak, she is very eloquent. Beyond just the teleprompter, too. From a Sikh background, and a kinder lot you'll never find.

Probably a better person than the UN deserves.

On the other hand, the Amway woman, not so much. Shyster business, IMHO.

It's on his Twitter feed if you want to look. He tweeted that after she lambasted him for not disavowing the KKKs endorsement..

This is a curious statement considering the UN is the USA's interface to much of the world.

For those who don't come up the reality show or community organizer route to the Presidency, this is a way to break out of the "Governor only" criticism of her skill set. I think her path ahead, achieved or not will include include a run for a much higher office.

With any luck she and Trumpy will disavow us of that odious institution.

I am sure there are several countries that would like to see that happen.

Of all the people who could write an interesting piece about Mr Trump getting elected as president, Thompson's wit and candor would be just what the doctor ordered. Sadly, he checked out a few years ago.
Yes, I suspect we are not the only ones by far who are missing his unique perspective these days; "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail" indeed!

That's about as stupid a statement as you've ever made, John. It's so far from the truth as to be worthy of scorn.

@obgraham: UN has its uses, albeit few. As a collective security organization, it's weak. As a world government attempt, it's bloody awful. For some of the medical cross border issues, and as a place to get dialogue started, works well enough.

Lonewolf, I'll grant you that WHO, UNICEF and a few others manage something worthwhile. But even those are top heavy with bureaucrats feeding at the trough of cash from a few countries. Case-in-point: World Food Program.

Otherwise, the concept of fruitful discussion with the majority of the members being dictatorships and abusers of women is a mystery to me. And the Sec Council with its structure is essentially a pi$$ing post.

Send the whole lot somewhere else, like NZ or maybe Chad. Turn that NYC real estate back into something useful.

New York, Democrats, Governor's Office, Governor, all operate in a vacuum I guess....and have not interplay with the Congressional Representatives and either US Senator from New York. It is one large Cesspool there.....much like Illinois and Chicago.

At least with the nice Behara fellow he doesn't care who he puts on Federal Prison....he follows the evidence wherever it leads and leaves the chips laying where they fall.

We should be so lucky as to have a DOJ full of such people of integrity and courage.

For darn sure the current DOJ is purely challenged in those attributes.

Like that country where they just elected a self professed sexual molester as their president?

And the Sec Council with its structure is essentially a pi$$ing post.
The Security Council is where a few countries use their position to wage economic warfare against weaker countries while using their power of veto to protect their own vassal states (US protecting Israel while trying to starve North Korea, Russia protecting Assad's Syria)

John, with due respect, to the US, obtaining UN approbation is akin to getting a letter from a parent in order to skip school. If they don't get it they'll either just forge one or simply not care and skip school anyway. Viz a viz;

A 102-year company in very blue CT is leaving like many others. Here's why,

[QUOTE][We have paid our fair share, but enough is enough.

Connecticut’s high cost of doing business and its anti-employer attitude have finally driven us out. We are not moving for any government incentives.
Consider these facts:
• We sold our 50,000-square-foot building for enough money to buy a 100,000-square-foot building — and still had enough money left to pay for the transport of 100 trailer loads of machinery and equipment to our new site.
• The property taxes on our big new facility in South Carolina are much less than those on our smaller former building in Connecticut.
• Our utility costs in South Carolina, especially for electricity, will be about a third of what we paid here, though our space will more than double.
• We are taking a third of our employees with us and paying them the same wages. With South Carolina’s lower cost of living, it is as if they are getting a big raise. And we pay our new employees in South Carolina competitive local wages.

These savings could no longer be ignored.
At the same time, the constant hostility of the General Assembly, the governor, and state agencies, particularly the state Labor Department, settled the matter against staying in Connecticut.
Year after year employers like us have to fight off efforts to:
— Expand state requirements for paid sick leave.
— Increase the highest minimum wage in the nation to $15 per hour and more.
— Require paid family and medical leave.
— Impose unworkable restrictions on workforce scheduling./QUOTE]

Some things are just unsustainable, blue politics is one.
