Looks SE Asian. Terminal is a lot like Siem Reap Cambodia. However there are houses under the approach to SR.

Guessing Thailand somewhere?

Sorry for the late response. Changed a bit between 2007 and when I was there earlier this year.

Anyone who hasn't been there do yourself a favour and go.

OH as I am about to head out.

OK. One hurrah for where this runway is and a double hurrah for explaining the white off-center markings.

First, Greetings to all here. I am a PPRuNe virgin, only reading for quite a while and now freshly enrolled here :-).

I just want to land a jackpot on my first post here: this is Mathis Airport, GA27 in Georgia, US, view from treshhold 03 uphill, and the white "markings" are actually gravestones of the graves of the original landlord family. The gravestones are right now told to be removed and the airport threatened to be converted to a construction area.

Throw flowers at me!

Could be an old RAF airfield taken over by the Army.

Google Earth would suggest that SlowAndOldButPaid nailed it in one.

SlowAndOldButPaid, absolutely correct - your turn.

And for the sad things: after protest from supporters failed to convince the county, Mathis Airport was closed in October. Another GA field gone forever.

Looks a bit like an old photo of the approach to Phuket.

This concrete thing in the water reminds me on WW2. Maybe an old Russian airport, Baltic Sea or the Baltics, Kaliningrad area?

Peenemunde, interesting link thereto:

Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields: Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia

It's always fascinating to understand how WoE'ers manage to suss out the more challenging ones (I was looking for airfields on the north coast of Long Island Sound :-O).

Broady, I too first started looking within the Long Island area and, having not found anything remotely similar, I switched to Denmark, where the flora appeared to be similar to the posted image. ChickenHouse had also swayed my search to Europe (a WW II connection) and I then worked my way down the coastline until I reached Germany and... BINGO! It was a certain amount of luck, rather than judgement, in looking within an area of geographic similarity that brought me to Peenemunde.

As it remains open house, try this one:

Something about TCF's pic makes me think Scotland.

Re Peenemunde, thanks! Others' search methodology is as interesting as the challenge itself.
