Going on the 'legend' clue, might it be one of the Stanton Drew stone circles in Somerset? On the other hand, that isn't 'a long way from Avebury' though!

Cool Merry maidens !

About four miles SW from Penzance or just put merry maidens in on google earth. The legend is a crowd of maidens were on their way to church on the sSabbath and they heard music playing so they begun to dance and were then turned to stone!!

It's a very lively waterside pub though... excellent Guinness... and brown beer if that's your preference. Live band every Friday.

I have to be away for the remainder of the afternoon... if it's positively identified before I return... Open House.

A geographical question then ............. and no cheating please because it would be really easy to Google the answer or look on a map.

How many doubly landlocked countries are there in the world?
Name them.

For the avoidance of doubt, by doubly landlocked I mean a country which is itself landlocked and is surrounded by landlocked countries.

(I would have been wrong in my answer!)
