LET THE BUGGERS GET ON WITH IT - IF THEY ARE KILLING EACH OTHER THEY ARE NOT BOTHERING US

Yes Con, and I might add: who appointed us (us being the more-or-less civilised states and countries) as keepers of the rest of the world ? Nobody as far as I can see.

And I might also add: interfering in such conflicts has resulted, time after time, in both sides temporarily forgetting their differences and turning on us (for definition of 'us' see above). If you don't believe that, you don't watch TV or read the papers.

Leave 'em at it: they'll sort themselves out.

This whole little thing in Syria was probably begun by the west in the first place. According to the former French foreign minister it was!

From the link posted by Ron.

Former French Foreign Minister Roland Dumas revealed that there’s a plot which was devised by several western countries – primarily Britain and France – to topple the Syrian the government even before the crisis started in Syria.
What, Obama not being allowed to join in on the fun?

But, I must admit so far Obama is supporting the rebels, not with arms (that we know of) and with humanitarian aid. So,,,,,who knows.

I still say, leave 'em be and let 'em keep killing each other off.

Not our fight.

Let them fight it out themselves and kill as
many of each other as possible.

US, UK, France should stay well out of it.

I can't see why France wants to get involved.

I came to the conclusion a while back that some populations need a foot on their necks just to function, intervening directly or helping in the removal of those feet has been a grave mistake.

Tony

That is a good analogy

Re getting involved, I think the US has enough on it's plate to sort out
with Egypt without getting involved in Syria, even if it won't be sending
troops onto the ground in Egypt, the fact is it needs to sort that out as it
can't extract itself from Egypt.

Obama could send an IRS hit squad to sort things out.

Why is it that Assad has been pasting the affected area with artie ever since?

If he wasn't responsible for the gassing surely it would be in his best interests to allow the UN inspectors access?

The UN inspectors probably had their final report on the incident typed up sealed in envelopes and handed to them before they left NY, and Assad knows this.
What me a cynic ?

Not many good arguments for nuclear weapons, but the ME maybe one of them.

And how about, instead of all that bombing, we just quit meddling there, uprooting native regimes, installing puppets, murdering, torturing and abusing the local peoples? Iran under Mossadegh and Iraq under Saddam were doing just fine. Syria will become just another on the long list of civilizations set back to stone age courtesy US-UK interference.

McCain calls for an escalation.

“It is long past time for the United States and our friends and allies to respond to Assad’s continuing mass atrocities in Syria with decisive actions, including limited military strikes to degrade Assad’s air power and ballistic missile capabilities,” said McCain, who is a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

I think he believes that the intervention in Libya was a grand success.

And I also think he's applying a cookie cutter to that operation as justification for more involvement.

This, I believe, stems from the air power cookie cutter from the 1999 bombing of Belgrade/Serbia, as though such things will solve Syrian problems, as some sort of "tool useful to any situation."

I hold none of thos positions, but I think that's where he's coming from.

He ought to know better.

Given ^^^^^ LW, what in your opinion is his real agenda, is the US trying to goad the Ruskies into a stand off, sewing the seeds of another cold war maybe.
