More urgent things to fix than the NBN.

Today, next week, next month, it's not going to make
any difference.

Due to the large areas of the cattle stations it'd be fairly easy for Indonesia to throw lotsa money at the Top end and get huge areas of country 'coloured' red and white on the map.
You forget that a large part of the NT has been converted to "Native Title", so ain't on the market.

When I think of foreign ownership, I also think of the massive Japanese investment in Queensland tourism infrastructure that ended when the Japanese bubble burst. Seems the land and buildings are still here long after the temporary owners have gone.

WRT the locally grown produce being sent off-shore, you would have to expect a government to act if its people faced starvation or economic ruin; so its a bit of a red herring.

However, we're now part of the global market and we should be looking at how we can benefit from what it offers rather than trying to ignore it in a kneejerk reaction towards protecting a very small fish in a very large pond.

Australians used to be innovators, punching well above our weight. Its time to throw off the yoke of over-regulation and get back to doing what we can do well.

I don't see much risk of Australians doing without because the production of its land is diverted offshore.

You might be forced to pay a higher price to where you compensate the producers more than their profit from shipping to Indonesia, but free market economies handle all that, naturally, as Adam Smith and Milton Freedman have eloquently pointed out. If you can find the youtube of Freedman describing the process and miracle of producing a common lead pencil, you'll see why it works.

Australia is blessed with an abundance of land and resources just waiting to be developed, along with a generally free market economy. The most precious thing you need to worry about protecting, IMHO, is that Freedom, and sovereign control of your borders and land.

We might have the land but we don't have the water
and unless someone comes up with a way of getting
consistent water, the land won't be developed.

The North of Aus, NT has land and water but also
birds that eat it all which is why Rice isn't grown there
any more.

If the water that currently flows out to see in areas where
it rains heaviest - Newcastle and north of there, Qld and
NT can be turned and pumped somewhere useful - even if
it is only into one of the rivers that flows inland, that is
better than nothing.

We need to be innovative.

The DME, FDR and the worlds first computer were all invented in Australia. That's just a few off the top of my head, I'm sure there are lots more. Australians are great innovaters, (the Sunshine Harvesrter just sprang to mind), all we need to do is get rid of all the over regulation, and we can get back on track.

Reduce regulation but also reintroduce a national culture of self-reliance.

And I see that the ALPBC has on Q and A tonight, that climate alarmist David Suzuki, to discuss Tony Abbots 'suicidal' move to scrap the carbon tax.How long will it take the ALPBC to realise we have voted out the leftie huggy fluffs and we don't need some idiot Canadian wasting oxygen, telling us the policies of the government we have ELECTED are wrong?

Ship Mr Suziki straight back to Canada, and make a priority of privatising the ABC, and removing all the lefty tree huggers...just my opinion.

I see the head of some Union of Xmas Island workers has come out
and said they will let the world know when boats arrive on Xmas
Island.

WTF has it got to do with a Union ?

Why don't they just get on with the job they do and leave
the AS to the Gov't ?

Sounds like a lefty put up job to me.

Re the ABC, leave it as is with all the fluffies in it, start a new
Gov't broadcaster and then defund the old ABC so if the fluffies
complain, just tell them to raise their own money to run it.
That would get them going off like a rocket !
Even a hint of it would make them think twice about things.

Does anyone actually watch / listen to the ABC any more ?

I watch the SBS more than most channels as it
actually has some good stuff on it.

Morrison's briefing today re AS.

I noticed this.

"The minister said asylum seekers arriving before July 19, when the former Rudd government announced its offshore processing arrangement with Papua New Guinea, will be offered temporary protection visas.

They won't be able to reunite with family and will have to work for the dole."

Way to go

How about extending it some serious (hard) labour building
things in the outback (like roads) etc on dole money. Would
save a heap of money for the Gov't if you could get it to work.
And get the fluffies to deliver the niceties to them if they think
their "human rights" aren't being looked after !

Myabe we should get the fluffies to do some work as well

Not a good idea. 99.9% of them would "injure" themselves within a day or two and be on the "compensayshion" bandwagon for life. The physiotherapists in Melbourne used to call the Sate Government's Work Care scheme "Turk Care" for very similar reasons.

I know of one woman who developed RSI (working for the Public Service in a ***office!!!) within two years of arriving in Australia. She has been on 75% of her wage - indexed, of course - for over 31 years. That's THIRTY-ONE years.

My life of hell in an Afghan harem - Phyllis Chesler | News.com.au

Troops mount final assault on Nairobi terrorists who killed 68, including an Australian | News.com.au

Compulsory reading for those lefty huggy fluffy illegal immigrant lovers.

I wont add an opinion, as it may get me barred but I'm sure you get the idea.

Excellent links Captain, can't understand why the huggy fluffs continue to ignore this sort of thing. As I have said before, my sister sits somewhere to the left of the most left Green Huggy Fluff you can find, and if you question her about any stuff like this, all she says is 'You must accept a multi-cultural society'...that's it accept it and be done.(my fat ar$e I will).

Australian news outlets have ben giving details of events in Kenya but seem to have missed the 50 plus Christians killed in a church in Peshawar, Pakistan by two suicide bombers. Another glorious victory by members of the 'Religion of Peace' no doubt.

The Wirraway was a dumbed down* Havard, built here under licence.

(* Simplified because the local workforce was on the whole unskilled and could not handle some of the Havard's more complex features. See: 'Aircraft Pioneer' by Sir Lawrence Wackett, the man who ran CAC, the company that built the Wirraway.)

The current Governor of Christmas Island is ALP so it probably stems from there. Interesting that just a few months ago Gillard said there would be no more announcements of AS arrivals and Shorten etc. or the unions never said a word!
