Why do I have to be told that I've received an e-mail - quote " sent from my iPad " or iPhone or Blackberry etc.?

Is this some sort of new Elitist ploy, or a factory default that can't be swicthed off ?

( sent from my 5 yr old Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop with dual core Intel processor - I think ? )

I think that it's supposed to signal that you are not at your normal emailing station

RE Driving Tests - MkII Cortina for me.

There's an apocryphal story round here about the young fella in the bush who went into the cop shop for his test. Sgt Plod behind the desk asked "Did you drive here?"
"Yes" was the response
"OK You've passed"

I'm not sure if ownership of a two year old BB9700 qualifies me as "elite," but I appreciate the compliment

It's a default on the iPhone but it can be changed to whatever you want.

Settings -- Mail,Contacts,Calendar -- Scroll down to Signature and change message to whatever you wish to blight everyone with.

Good morning all.
Overcast, chilly but not raining.

Yesterday I started building a low retaining wall (drystane dyke) to hold back an earth bank that was encroaching onto the lawn. Its one of those jobs that once started, one has just got to finish as it is so visible to anyone coming up the drive.

Only about another two tons of stone to shift

My iPad and Blackberry phone both do that. From the point of view of the manufacturer its an advertising gimmick. From my point of view, it shows that I'm not at home or my office desk. 'Common Man' me - its the positive action of turning it off that seems individualist or elitist.

Morning all, heavy showers in evidence here. Once they pass through the sky is a most brilliant blue.

...........it shows that I'm not at home or my office desk.
But does it matter ? Probably not unreasonable when the gadgets were new and novel, but many use them almost as mainframe computers now, and use nothing else, and I don't care where they are, on the toilet if they want to be, and we don't talk to someone on the telephone and say " I'm using my mouth to communicate with you today " or "my fingers typed this text message to you "

To me it's just another irritating Spam advertising gimmick, that actually has the reverse effect than that desired - puts me off.

Back to my cave.

Anna back complete with "Red Cross parcel" of Polish goodies. The homemade variety not the ones you can buy in the delis. Even some cherry liquer from her Aunty.

Tony, great newspaper article.

Yippee. It's sunny outside. Might go for a stroll later. Standby at rest location. Can't go far lest I get called. Although, our aircraft was taken by another crew this morning...
