Selfish?

Studies (actual data, google Arthur Brooks) show that conservatives give more money, more time, even blood than those who self-identify as liberals.

Why does the left always resort to specious arguments and name calling?

As for that I guess you and I should take refuge in a US based university and work on our respective theses. My choice is Colgate, what is yours?

As for the rest, what makes you think I am a liberal?

Libertarian perhaps!

Modern "liberals" are anything but liberal. Intolerant, leftist, socialist, Marxist, joyless, tedious, and insufferable, yes.

And your flexible mindset is?

We can't continue to talk in cliches and prejudices.

We need to understand that chirality in politics is just a fad... As my old man said to me back in SA, "people will always just vote for white bread the fools" (he was a harsh man, right wing, but good).

Liberals, Europeans? Who else do you despise?

If I despised Europeans, I wouldn't have married into a European family! I genuinely like Europeans, and thoroughly enjoy the continent. It's their hideous politics and sanctimony that grate!

Back to the serious stuff...this is written by someone who was there:

Bowe Bergdahl: Perspective of a Marine in Afghanistan | New Republic
Among sailors, a crew member who brings bad luck is known as a Jonah. It’s a long-held superstition, deriving from the Book of Jonah. Then the sailors said to each other, ‘Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity.’ They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. And like the hapless crew that sailed Jonah to Tarshish, we found ourselves in a storm fighting in Afghanistan. With Bergdahl’s disappearance always in the background, imaginations ran wild. Why did the Taliban in Paktika execute attacks with such unusual precision and lethality? Some hypothesized that Bergdahl had informed them of our tactics. Why did Afghan civilians refuse civil aid that they so obviously needed? Others believed rumors that Bergdahl had participated in a propaganda campaign against us. None of this could be substantiated, but over there Bergdahl became the idol of discontent for so many. He was the Jonah.

Whatever the outcome of "Sergeant" Bergdahl's post-release debrief* by the US Army, I think it would be safe to say he's unlikely to be attending any Unit reunions in the future.

Far into the future.

* Why do I feel that any punishment, (if any is meted out to him at all while the Democrats remain in office), will resemble a wet lettuce very gently applied to the back of his wrist.

A Democrat Party spokesman is reported to have said that he may have had good reason to escape to the arms of the Taliban because the other members of his platoon were psychopaths. 29 psychopaths and one sane man... sounds about right for yer average infantry platoon...

In the eyes of the inner beltway Leftie latte-sipping set at least.

His punishment will not be decided by Democrats, Republicans, Tea Party or any other political party but by the U.S. Army under Article 32 of the UCMJ for abandoning his post in a combat area of operations.

May the book land firmly, and with a loud thud, on his young ass.

Slightly off topic, but worth the read for this quote...

They were young, but they were not children. I was listening to President Obama explain yesterday from Brussels that the deserter he brought home from the Taliban this week was just a "kid". In fact, he's 28 years old. I remember walking through the Canadian graves at Bény-sur-Mer a few years ago. Over two thousand headstones, but only a handful of ages inscribed upon them: 22 years old, 21, 20... But they weren't "kids", they were men.

Nothing changes

NBC continues to carry water for the Bamster. Brian Williams asking soft ball questions as to why congress was not informed and accepts the bogus answer.

Bumster: "my principals, my government, my military". Really? His? Did he forget that little bit about "We the People"? Oh right, let them eat cake.

I am really pis, err, highly annoyed with the NBC Nightly News coverage this night of the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

I did not want to watch five minutes of Obama telling everybody how great he is. I want to see the ceremony and listen to the D-Day veterans.

Just more proof that NBC is bought and paid for by the Democratic Party.

It's been mentioned on the D-day thread, but WTF was Barak Obama thinking to be chewing gum during Hollande's speech? Surely that was a carefully considered act, intended to show the world at large that Barak Obama did not consider the D-Day commemoration ceremony - or the veterans of that terrible day - to be worthy of his respect.

The man is an embarrassment, but not as much an embarrassment as those (like 90% of the American MSM and the world of academia) who refuse to find fault in him.

This is a man who knew, or should have known this would be considered poor manners at a minimum, an insult at worst yet still did it.

They all come from the same Community Organized School of Bad Manners.

Remember the picture where he is shaking hands with someone and his other hand is in his pocket? A big no-no among the polite folk.

Folks,

Remember who you are talking about here.

Simply put, the guy has no Class, Manners, or Decorum.

So what do you expect?

That's been my line for a few decades. But I fully endorse Matari quoting me. When a group has no comprehension of the etymology of the label they choose, they are either ignorant - or maybe attempting deception.
