about 20secs to be precise
On some channels, that's about how long they spend on one story.

Ah yes the famous argument between the highbrow NY Times and decidedly low-brow USA Today.

I'm not sure which is more full of it, actually. The Times is written for an audience of about 20 square blocks in upper Manhattan, and USA Today for the rest of us.

How can one take seriously an article that starts with: "As soon as I got off my flight from my summer home in Provence, I went to a friend's cocktail party in the Hamptons, where we were discussing...." Pretty much verbatim lede from Roger Cohen a while back. Bore me to tears, will ya?

Then there's our Maureen Dowd, who has made it her life's work to try to figure out why MEN are so evil. Good luck with that one, and good grief, girl. Pour another gin fizz and hike up your skirt, you might get lucky tonight.

Once their Public Editor figures out how to define a "white Hispanic," I'll tune back in, until that time I'm just watching Sabado Gigante on Univison.

USA Today actually presaged the use of color graphics, and the 140-word Tw!tter world. Talk about lack of attention! But who says Tw!tter is for the not-so-bright? Well, I do, but I mean among those who matter?

The Guardian and BBC are stomach-turning birds of a left-leaning feather, and as con-pilot says who isn't biased, anyway? But why do they pretend? Embrace your social brotherhood, and get on the horn and find a place for Hugo to get his treatment, pronto! M.D. Anderson would do nicely, but there's that pesky thing about yankees and nobody there could keep a secret for the old communist anyway. Drat that free press, even if it is the USA Today!

" However, with regard to USA Today ( truly, in a class of it's own as Chuks observed) it is, I suppose the equivalent of being offered the Mail when boarding a UK flight...neither does the country of origin any favours."

In the case of the Mail, that's because they disclose the stories that the leftist toadies would prefer remain buried.................

France 24
is ( IMO ) a good TV news source with a neutral outlook and good coverage of events the usual lot choose to ignore.

Also Russia Today is interesting, except their discussions of anything to do with US policies or news, which tend to be somewhat skewed.......

In our local news.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NBC News has fired a producer for editing a recording of a neighbourhood watch volunteer's call to police the night he shot a black teenager, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said.

The person was not authorised to talk about the situation publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity. The identity of the producer was not disclosed.

An NBC spokeswoman declined to comment.

The producer's dismissal followed an internal investigation that led to NBC apologizing for having aired the misleading audio.

NBC's Today show first aired the edited version of watch volunteer George Zimmerman's call on March 27. The recording viewers heard was trimmed to suggest that Zimmerman volunteered to police, with no prompting, that Trayvon Martin was black: ''This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black.''

But the portion of the tape that was deleted had the emergency dispatcher asking Zimmerman if the person who had raised his suspicion was ''black, white or Hispanic,'' to which Zimmerman responded, ''He looks black.''

Later that night of February 26, the 17-year-old Martin was fatally shot by Zimmerman in a gated community in Sanford, Florida. Though Martin was unarmed, Zimmerman told police he fired in self-defence after Martin attacked him.

Questions subsequently have arisen over whether Zimmerman was racially profiling the teen, a theory the edited version of the tape seemed to support. The case has stirred a national conversation about race and the laws of self-defence.

On Tuesday, NBC said its investigation turned up ''an error made in the production process that we deeply regret.'' It promised that ''necessary steps'' would be taken ''to prevent this from happening in the future'' and apologised to viewers.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Was the error in the production process deeply regretted? or the fact that it has been made public??

Maureen Dowd is actually a fox, but uses her personality and politics as contraceptives.

The left truly does believe in equal (totalitarian) treatment for all. They wish for nothing less than the homogenization and neutering of the Human Spirit. To this end, they sequester barely identifiable "groups", and pit one against the others, to form a more perfect and hypnotized electorate.

Theirs is a Puppet show, with the many uniforms sewn by their focus groups, and in the name of Diversity, they foster the breeding of envy, selfishness, and Fear. Divide and conquer?

As to news? twenty minutes is nineteen too long, for what masquerades as news is truly commentary, opinon, and propaganda.

I need a bit of sound, for I learned as a child how we work as a political system, and it is not complex. What matters is MY opinion, my commentary, and the Truth, as I know it. The same is true of all here, the intelligence is self evident.

I learned as a child that the form of government we have mirrors closely the Public School experience. Those who are popular get to wear caps, and sit in front at the good assemblies. If one is quiet, or odd, it is not fun. Spend some objective time in a Public school system, as a volunteer, or even as a Board Member, as I did. It is a fiefdom of privilege, groupthink, and bullying of the precious individuals our great Country was created TO PROTECT.

The Constitution was not composed to solidify majorities, it exists ONLY to defend the shy, the weak, and the unpopular. The State is the Supreme, not the Federal.

Party leaders have lost that. Greed, Ego, Envy, and pretension are the new electorate, the new populace.

Open one's Heart, and take a moment to think about what is important to those who "Lead". RE-Election, Favor, and insider trading.

We have become what we spilled Blood to vanquish all these years ago.

"In a system based on Economic Freedom (We ARE), taxation is Tyranny."

The Palace is no longer on the Thames, but on Pennsylvania Avenue. And it is a cruel tyrant that shames the legacy of tinhorn Thieves like the aristocracies of the Eighteenth Century.

So true. I was watching the BBC news a couple of nights ago and it was full of reporters saying "I think" and "In my opinion". I don't give a sh!t about what you think and what your opinion is, just report the facts and I'll make my own mind up.

Don't pay any mind to KnC, TZ350, he suffers from an irrational hatred of the Mail. It's an affliction that affects many of the left who prefer to see any dissent from the socialist ideal crushed underfoot.

Sorry for butting in on your thread with this sidetrack to England. Back to you Americans now.

As someone who attended a well know Public School from the first form into the sixth form I can assure you that the school you experienced was quite different to mine. The privileged mingled freely with the less so, diversity of though and opinion was positively encouraged and while fights between boys took places just as in any school there was no systematic victimization amongst day boys or boarders.

AA

First, thank you for Macnaughton. Second, I should have explained that I grew up in California. Certainly there are fine schools everywhere, but here in Cali, the PubEd system has been entirely co-opted by State Liberal knuckleheads, and Unions, so it is a mess. We are not the leading Nanny state without reason

AA, Lyman, are you lads using the American or English definition of "Public School"?

I suspect Lyman using the American and AA using English.

So, SASless, the Japs haven't got any assistance from the U.S. government? How about asking the really hard question: Are there people who have chosen to misuse the aid that they have received?

First we gave the feisty little buggers a couple of cans of Instant Sunshine, but then we helped put them back on their feet. Meanwhile, at home, it has been a case of 'You are a victim of the system, you poor thing. Here, have some money to help support your bastard child. Now, promise not to buy drugs with that!'

Before anyone starts waving the race card let me point out that I was once privy to a chat between two white girls in Charlotte, North Carolina, who were laughing and scratching, remembering the good times when the ADC (Aid for Dependent Children) cash was flowing, it was party time and nobody was asking any questions such as, 'So, what happens next?'

Do they vote Democratic? Beats me, but let me ask another one. Does a chicken have lips?

Chuks,

Granted you viewed my Bar Card much as the girls did the AFDC checks....it is not necessarily getting assistance that matters but what one does with it. If you had been craftily buying drinks using my Bar Card....and showering your new found largesse upon your close German buddy who was in management....you would have fared far better than just using all those funds for mere self satisfaction.

Indeed, if Lyman was using the US version the school systems are significantly different...

There's that oddity, that 'public' means 'private' when one is referring to the U.K.

For a writing course here at college we had to work with a piece Sir Winston Churchill wrote about his time at a public (meaning private) school, when he had a wonderful teacher who taught him English because he was considered too stupid for Greek and Latin. It's worth a read, but I cannot remember now the title it was excerpted from. His autobiography, about his childhood, I guess.

There would have been more to it than just a bar card, SASless. I think a lot of smoochy-smoochy in a place where the sun don't shine would have been needed, and I just don't swing that way. Ask Captain Waterhead about that; he should know!

I am sorry, but nobody puts a gun to the head of some poor person to make them screw up in the way one sees so often. Look at that greasy fool Al Sharpton, always there to blame things on wicked Whitey, with the politicians now lining up to kiss his ring.

What was it Victor Meldrew always said? I don't believe it!

Look at that greasy fool Al Sharpton, always there to blame things on wicked Whitey, with the politicians now lining up to kiss his ring.
ABC News - The Rev. Al Sharpton will camp out with protesters in front of City Hall in Sanford, Fla., over Easter weekend as part of a nationwide call for the arrest of George Zimmerman, the volunteer neighborhood watch captain who shot 17-year old Trayvon Martin in February, he told ABC News.

“We’re going to have a full blown occupation of Sanford with tents and everything over Easter weekend until [authorities] either arrest George Zimmerman, or arrest us for praying for his arrest,” Sharpton said.

The civil rights leader and MSNBC talk show host said he’d be urging supporters of the cause across the country to wear “hoodies instead of Easter outfits to church on Easter Sunday.” Sharpton said he will camp out “from Good Friday through Easter Sunday.”

The Easter weekend occupation is part of a wave of civil disobedience that Sharpton and other leaders are organizing to ratchet up pressure on ...
One small problem... He ditched em. Had other things to do.

On Easter Sunday the Rev. Al Sharpton, an MSNBC host, broke a major promise he made to those supporting him and the family of slain teenager Trayvon Martin: He didn’t show up in Sanford, Fla., to “occupy” the town.

That's because Rev. Al never misses his scheduled daily cigar at the Grand Havana Room in NYC.

Dr. Cosby gives us guidance

Remarkable that he has such powerful insight into Mr. Zimmerman's mind.

Cosby is a refreshing figure in Black politics. As an NRA lifer, I believe in the 2nd with all my heart. He has my attention, and I respect his pov. Firearms come with responsibility, and I believe in a well armed militia. I personally think armed civilian patrols may be a bit precipitous, it may not be time yet. Without knowing more about Sanford, it is hard to say. I did not read the whole piece, but thought I'd jump to the Drs. defense.

Cosby is outspoken re: Black personal responsibility, work, and individualism. He cannot be lumped in with slippery Al or Jessme Jackson.
