I'm not so sure this is a good thing in the long run.

The Saudis are pumping like mad, flooding the market to lower the price, in the hopes of putting North American production out of business. Then guess what, up will go the price again.

Oh the price will go back up, hell even if the Saudis have to start a war in the Middle East to cause the price rise, they'll do it.

But the point is, we no longer have to depend on Middle East oil and they know that.

I've flown for oil companies nearly all my live except for the ten years I flew for the government and with oil companies it is either feast or famine. One day you are flying a Falcon 900EX all over the world and the next you’re applying for unemployment and your former boss is down to three homes*, having to fly first class on the airlines and a 100 foot yacht.

* One in Aspen and two in London, poor guy.

Some would argue that it too was "for oil companies" given Dick Cheney's involvement

The good thing about $60 oil is that it might dish Russia, Iran, and Venezuela with some very unpleasant choices.

Our oilmen will survive, just as they did the $10 oil in the 1990s.

We should also be filling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve vaults again.

I would think we would see more "external" protestors at Demonstrations against Big Oil now that the price of Gasoline is coming down and the Occupy folks can afford to travel further due to the reduced cost of their gasoline.

Like anything else, it goes far beyond the pump. Some of it is good, some of it is bad, and some of it depends upon your perspective.

$60 oil makes Athabasca tar sands unprofitable and will probably scupper the Keystone XL pipeline for the time being (as if that thing didn't have enough opposition already).

It makes it harder to justify deep offshore drilling so those workers can be and are being laid off.

Large onshore and offshore projects domestically and internationally will be shut down or capped and idled.

Large companies with large cash reserves will weather this fine, but wildcatters and smaller support companies will take a beating. It will come down to how long OPEC is willing to stare across the table and accept a low price for their oil.

Airlines and transportation companies will be laying in forward contracts on cheaper fuel in the hopes of increasing their margins, while alternative energy will take a beating.

But if history is any guide, there will be some crisis in a matter of months about the time the SPR is topped off. I'm sure the politicians are in the kitchen cooking one up now.

One thing that does not get cut is the amount of Tax Government takes per gallon of Petrol sold at the Pump....or anywhere in the process.

That's true, Bob. Because vehicles are becoming more fuel-efficient, the amount of beating up the roads take per gallon sold has increased, so the NHTSA has been trying to figure out for a few years now how to increase the amount of tax collected for road repair. I suspect it will go up, and soon.

There was even a proposal for electric vehicles to pay a 'fuel tax' upon purchase to offset the amount of tax that they wouldn't pay at the pump over the course of the vehicle's life.

If they don't get you one way, they'll get you another.

I saw this at Facebook where it posted by a guy calling himself "Gramps". It pretty well sums up about half of us in this Country.

I'm a tired....&....Un-hyphened, American.

I'm tired of the term, 'African-American', is racism based on one's Country of origin, or the color of their skin ???

I'm tired of the excessive Govt. spending ! 45/47 cents of 'every' BUCK spent by the Feds' is either, printed or borrowed, stolen from future generations !

I'm tired of being, ignored & lied to.... Period !

I'm tired of the 'Justice Dept.' making excuses for a persons behavior & looking the other way, while they're in 'contempt' & or 'obstructing' a Congressional Investigation..

I'm tired of SHARPTON, & now he's been elevated to Obamas', 'Consigliere' !

Tired of being told by some 'know-it-all-talking-head' on TV, what I'm thinking & why I did that...They haven't a clue!

I'm tired of war & helping people who 'hate' us !

I'm tired of hearing about standing room only in emergency rooms & having to pay or hire more bilingual Staff, added to the Illegals' unpaid medical bills......

I'm tired of going to work twice a day...once or so on weekends...

I'm tired of hearing about traffic accidents being caused by people with no Insurance or license & causing 'hit & runs'...

I'm tired of hearing about 'Common Core', No Child left behind & Head Start' !....All, 4 year olds' S/be tested to see if they can, understand the concept, & say "Please & Thank You', B/4 being admitted to the 'Head Start' type programs...The PARENTS of 4 year olds' who can't pass this 'basic' of life, should be reported to 'Child Protective Services' in their States, for 'Intellectual Child Abuse' !

I'm tired of hearing about ID's, I had to show mine at the grocery store yesterday...'Big Deal' !

I'm tired of seeing the 'same faces' of crime on the Evening News..

I'm 'glad' I'm White, because the 'Blacks' are KILLING each other, 'Left & Right' !

I'm tired of 'leftist media', ABC, CBS, NBC, HLN, CNN & 'MSNBC'....yet.... I'm not alone, FOX's ratings are through the roof....It's SIX against, '1'...!

Tired of the Congressional finger pointing...."STOP IT, FIX IT &, FRISK THEM"....then we'll move on to the next fix.

I'm sick of being blamed for the 'Sins of my Fathers' going back hundreds of years! Todays' MSM, & MSNBC's Rev. Al, treats 'History' as if it/they, were CURRENT EVENTS....

I'm tired of 'D's & 'R's, that don't'....'GET RID OF THEM ALL'...Clean slates & fences are what's needed to start 'Immigration Reform' !

I made too much money for my 'kiddo's' to get financial aid, so I end up helping pay for others to go to College @ the public trough.

Tired of 'Caucuses'....We need just one, an 'American' Caucus.

I'm tired of leaving a tip @ double D's & not hearing 'Thank you'...when I do, it usually has a foreign accent attached to it...

I'm tired of reading stories about 'bailing out' Detroit, if it's done there's 15+ more City's, + 'Puerto Rico', waiting in the wings....All have been controlled by 'one' group for 'decades'...

Tired of building High School's for 150 million (half BILLION in California) & watch the lil' darlings show up the 1st day dressed like slobs/bums & street walkers...&...Then 4 years later 'still' can't read/write or 'critically think'....

Back in the day, I guess you could say, I used to be part of the, 'Silent Majority'....

WE DON'T NEED A PIPLINE, "We need Hemp" !
I'm tired of war's to 'protect oil fields'. Our US Constitution was printed on paper made from, 'Hemp' !...Plug this into 'you-tube': 'How Hemp Threatens the Corporatocracy'.....
You won't get high, but you WILL get really 'phyissed-off' !..(5 minutes long)

I'm tired of being called a 'bigot' by a 'bunch' of... RACIST'S...

I'm tired of 'nation building', while mine is 'CRUMBLING'....

I'm tired of the revolving door @ the Dept. of Defense, he's looking for #4 & there's NO 'takers' !

I'm tired of headlines like this one a year or so ago from Detroit: "Father of '24' kid's, found dead"

I'm tired of reliving History 2/3 & maybe more times a day. Rev Sharpton treats Historical Events, as if they were 'Current Events'...Is he trying to incite a 'Race War' ?....

Now, I guess now you could also call me, "Totally Fed-Up", with all the PC/BS, that would be correct Sir/Mam !

I'm sick & tired of our leaders, mostly 'phonies', calling things PHONEY !

gramps........PS

I've NEVER tired of teaching my kid's 'Right from Wrong' & stressing how 'proud' I am about their 'work ethic'...

I'm posting this here because I can't figgure where else it would be understood... Something that I have just remembered from long-long ago..

In the 1950s my dad was the Anglican vicar in some South American oilfields where there were a lot of US citizens amongst his parishoners. Post Castro there started to appear all the usual "Fuera Yanqui" and "Yanqui go home" graffiti.

One of the older parishoners observed that it all quite upset him and that it would have really annoyed his granpappy that everyone kept spelling "yankee" wrongly.

My dad (suspecting a wind-up) started to explain that it was a roughly phonetic spelling.

"No, no", said his parishoner, "it's like the 'P' in psychology, when you say it you don't pronounce the 'P' but when you write it it looks wrong if you leave the 'P' out"

"It's just so annoying that they keep leaving out the "Damn"..."

Pay particular attention to the opening monologue when you non-American sorts deem it appropriate to be critical of the manner in which we do things over here.

ECON 101 and oil

There are low cost producers, and then there are high cost ones.

The high cost ones are (generally) the newer technology (Fracking, offshore, etc.). They may find the petroleum market unprofitable for a while. That's the strategy of Saudi's oil minister - keep production up, drive the higher-cost folks to shut down.

The rest of OPEC doesn't like it, but they have no better idea.
