I asked the same thing when W was president. He did about jack s*** about it. At least under the Obama administration (I am no fan of his, but let's get the record straight here) a few more assets got sent to the border to help deal with the problem.

I can't argue with that, Lonewolf_50, but Bush couldn't afford alienating Hispanic voters, and he perceived it was important to not be painted as anti-Hispanic or anti-immigration. He got that perspective from his Texas political campaigns where he was able to garner significant Hispanic support.

Yes Lone.....and we see how well that worked out haven't we?

Symbolic gestures on both Bush and Welfare Man's part.

That was the single most important failure of Bush in my book which considering how Iraq was handled should tell you something how I feel about it.

Reagan made the first mistake on Immigration and every Administration since has compounded that mistake in one way or another.

We should never have had the first Amnesty.

Either we are a Nation of Laws or not.

The first rule of immigration for every nation should be: NO WELFARE ENTITLEMENT OF ANY SORT FOR 10 YEARS AFTER IMMIGRATION.

That alone would solve 80% or more of the West's immigration problem. It would also facilitate the accommodation of genuine refugees. I have no issue with people from other countries coming here if they want to work hard and aspire to achieve their dreams. That has always been the foundation of America.

They must, however, go through the legal process and subject themselves to our RULE OF LAW. Any other path is poisonous and will ultimately result in gnashing of teeth, violence and squalor, visited most heavily on the immigrants, themselves.

As for employers wanting cheap labor, who thus support open borders - a pox on their house!

Let me through this in the works for discussion.

Forget Presidents, who was good, who was bad, Donald Rumsfeld has been the cause of the US's recent worst nightmares and decisions and his ability to push things
through ? reluctant ? Presidents and silence critics or even remove those who disagree - ie Generals (Shinseki), Army secretary Thomas White .

That should provide some debate !

Point of argument - the Left is the cause of our recent worst nightmares. Every one of them.

Robert.

Just a small point in your very accurate post;

Lackland Air Force base in Oklahoma
Lackland Air Force Base is in Texas. Fort Sill in Oklahoma, which is now holding over 1,200 illegal immigrant children, about the same that are being held at Lackland Air Force Base.

The Congressman that represents the district that Fort Sill is in, tried to visit Fort Sill to check on the conditions that the children are being held.

He was refused permission, but the press was granted permission.

I think they're being housed in the same barracks I lived in when I attended OTS back in 1974.

Don't think they have to salute the same rock I had to back then.

Who knows, as Congressional members of Oklahoma cannot go on to Fort Sill to check and the media that were allowed in were under extreme censorship, no mobile phones and no recording devices of any type, audio or visual.

The reporters were under strict orders not to talk to the children and the children were forbidden to talk to the reporters.

Are we still living in the United States?

Good question and one Senator McCain wants the answer to.

As for Fort Sill, that is a military installation and comes under the jurisdiction of the President, as he is the Commander in Chief. Therefore, Obama can order the ban of anyone from entering any military installation.

It depends. A congressman can make waves for anyone. However, if guidance has been issued by the administration, it generally trumps a congressman.

The National Guard is state and Fort Sill is federal.

Great Republican campaign slogan.

"Well hope didn't work, now it's time for change."

How about

"There's no 'f' in hope, Barak; but there is an R in progress. Perhaps you should have gone on Sesame Street instead of Michelle"
