S&P know that if their credibility is lost, their business is toast.
Based on their track record, as I said before, their reports are "garbage", do not have credibility and cannot be trusted.

So ask yourself why are they not toast and still in business?

It is obvious that business analyst companies and any business with that element in it's structure have financial involvement and are keeping them afloat for their own purposes. Their computer business models, just like those in the volcano ash scandle, are not fit for purpose and therefore S & P are not fit for purpose. The market wide boys must love them though.

One of the US papers has an article on the subject of S & P's ratings not being up to scratch this morning. Some analyst from one of their user companies has been on BBC World News singing their praise in response.

The sector needs heavy regulation and quickly.

It is an ill wind...

One badly forecast rating is another man's loss or gain of a fortune.

Standard and Poor will continue to do fine as one of the entrail pullers to the markets.

The sector needs heavy regulation and quickly.
Look at this idea a little more carefully, please. Quite a few people smarter than us believe that the unprecedented prosperity of our current world largely stems from and depends on less heavy regulation of finance and trade in general. Quite many attribute the blossoming of China's industrial prosperity to the relaxation of Soviet-style regulation of commerce with State-dictated business quotas and enforced operating methods.

Possibly the key to better performance is to draw distinctions between the processes of business and commerce, which are often better controlled by market forces due to their infinite variety, time-sensitivity, and considerable variability of scale, versus the results of same, which can be identified, judged and punished as lawful or otherwise. That focus will not solve all problems, for sure, but a few hundred thousand more executives, bankers, salespeople, and entrepreneurs spending their golden years with a sledgehammer tending a rock pile somewhere might help to focus the energies of the rest on coloring inside the lines more consistently.

It's a big World, and messy at best.

Ah Juvenal comes to mind when confronted with such innocent thoughts.
Quis custodiet ipsos.
Whose going to regulate the raters, the Greek government?

Spikey - that #11 report needed a smiley.

Not all of us know who Borowitz is.........

Andy Borowitz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the late 1990s, Borowitz began e-mailing humorous fake news stories to friends. In 2001, he founded the Borowitz Report, a site that posts one 250-word ...
