UK terror threat raised to severe

This is something that all of us need to be aware of. Please take extra care as you go about your duties. Stay safe!

"The UK terror threat level is being raised from "substantial" to "severe", Home Secretary Alan Johnson has said. The new alert level means a terrorist attack is considered "highly likely"."

Hmmmmmm. this wouldn't have something to do with the fact they lost an appeal to the court of human rights, so are now going to try some spin and frighten people, would it?

The ability of UK police to use "arbitrary" counter-terror stop and search powers against peace protesters and photographers lay in tatters today after a landmark ruling by the European court of human rights.

The Strasbourg court ruled it was unlawful for police to use the powers, under section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000, to stop and search people without needing any grounds for suspicion.

With respect, although the politics behind the decision are dubious, I am simply looking at the issue from an operational point of view - therefore extra vigilence is required on all flights ex UK.

Mr Johnson stressed there was no intelligence to suggest a terrorist attack was imminent.
They just make this up as they go along.

But I don't think any other party in power would be remotely different. Give a bunch of frightened middle-aged blokes an underground briefing room with a name like COBRA and they'll turn into posturing macho idiots no matter what their views on socioeconomic development.

Truly truly hope to be proved wrong, but after all the horlocks associated with the last problem of our Nigerian with "fire in de balls" do they really expect anyone to take any of them seriously.
Total Worlocks and yet again more (attempted ) efforts to justify their own salaries methinks.
In any case, dull ***** (OK mods please delete ) why the hell would they actually publicise it, surely for gods sake that already gives tha game away Duh . . . . . its behind you

Airport security, the liquids ban, et all.

All props.

The NWA/Detroit bomb?

Just an excuse to start a war with Yemen.

That's it, but we'll all carry on pretending like we know nothing.

End of the Cold War a disaster for the Govt.?

Sometimes I really wish the Cold War had never ended...

At least I was happy to grow up believing that we were only 10 mins from the end of the world. A little more exciting than all the [email protected] we have to put up with now...

Blimey Capt - Yes I do feel more at risk over the last few years than I did before I was caught up in the chaos of one of the London Tube bombings. The politics behind the issues are dubious, as I said in my original post - I am not saying who is right and who is wrong - simply that the rise in threat level will have a direct impact upon each and every one of us who work in the industry - I am not sure which airline you work for (if any) but at BA this kind of thing is taken very very seriously.

It's to do with a conversation overheard from within number 10. Gormless was heard to say, if they don't vote for me that will be their lot.

He's a bit like that you know!

Yes I feel less safe. Look at the world around you - since September 11th we have had many attacks in the Western world so it doesn't surprise me that the UK is at severe level. If you are a Captain and you are burying your head in the sand then it is worrying. I am not being hysterical but I'm just being realistic - look at the world around you over the last few years, the people that raise the levels are from intelligent organisations. Us who work in the aviation industry (Flight crew, cabin crew, security, check in etc etc) need to be extra vigilant.

Simples!

Yes of course its all a big conspiracy

Man does every thing have to be about some big conspiracy to pull the wool over peoples eye's. I think people have been watching to many movies/television shows.

Most people understand it for what it is, bumbling burecrates etc trying to implement a over complicated system. The prime purposes of which is to protect there butts first and hopefully ours.

There will be a complicated set of metrics where somethings changed and whalla!, threat level severe. It have actually no bearing on it actually being severe, but welcome to life.

Intelligent ? Hah, I guess that is why all their combined might let the Nigerian with the now slightly singed travel then?

OK , we will call it BULLSHIT instead then.

Seriously, do they really believe the Bad Guys will give any hint ?

Don't really believe the baddies have such a fixed timetable that this hysteria is in any way indicative of something brewing/or indeed likely to curtail anything planned.
Just a ploy to make them seem like they have some idea (which I doubt )

Our butts have nothing to do with it; it's all about politicians protecting their publically-funded arses...
